Switching Proper Places (Part 2)

Continuing from the previous chapter, we have Rory's first full day in Pleasantville!

One of the things I wanted to do with this story was really define a town that is similar to Stepford, but does have its differences. One of those is the fact that, in the version of Stepford I write, men typically aren't brainwashed. Sure, some are, and I've written a story or two that involve that, but by and large it's just the housewives who are being changed from their natural selves.

The Community which appeared in my Cabaret story, meanwhile, is a bit more overtly and obviously kinky. They're much more openly sexual, and also a bit militaristic and deliberately expansionist. However, they don't really show up very often in my work.

And so, with Pleasantville, I wanted to make a town that's more quaint and seemingly docile like Stepford, but with equal opportunity brainwashing. As seen in this chapter, most men are seemingly just as brainwashed as women in Pleasantville, and in the story A Simple Day, where a couple (who show up in this chapter at the grocery store!) from Pleasantville are both just as brainwashed as each other. In fact, the only people we've met thus far in this story who aren't brainwashed at all are Rory, Nina, and Archie. Every single other character who we've met in Pleasantville is completely brainwashed.

Now, how will Rory's plan to turn the tables pan out? Will they be able to keep Archie from learning that they, in fact, are the submissive in the relationship and not Nina? And will Nina find out about the vial Archie offered to Rory? Tune in next time~
