The pitch was for a story focusing on a tomboy goth girl being stepfordized, first physically and then mentally, after entering a Stepford-like town. I decided to set the story in the Pacific Northwest simply because I like the idea that these towns like Stepford are all over the country, just in random areas. There's one in Oregon, in New York, in Texas and Arkansas and Utah and, obviously, Connecticut. There are as many of them as you could possibly need when writing stories!
It was also fun to do a Stepfordization that starts physically, before becoming mental at the end. It gives the character more time to react to what they'll spend the rest of their life looking like, and more time to be promptly disgusted and horrified.
