Academia: Finale

And here we have it, folks! The ending to our latest story. Spoilers abound up ahead, so please skip down to the links before you read the rest of this!

I knew from close to the start who I wanted the mole to be, although I did consider just about every girl as a possibility before making the final decision. The hints spread throughout the story may have made it a bit obvious, but I think I prefer it that way over it coming completely out of left field with no buildup at all. 

As for the little epilogue portion of this chapter, that was another thing I knew I wanted to have right from the start. So far, I don’t believe any of my stories have featured anyone managing to escape with their free will intact. Some people are just fine with that (I don’t mind it myself), but I have gotten comments from time to time wishing for a happier ending, so to speak. With an ensemble cast like this one, I saw a perfect opportunity to make everyone happy. Three girls get stepfordized, and one doesn’t. The fact that she’s also the most sympathetic of the girls plays a part as well. Seeing her get transformed like the others would be a bit of a gut punch, while her making a better life for herself on her own terms feels much more cathartic. 

Now, let’s talk outfits!

For Mrs. Prescott’s dinner party look, I wanted something that displayed authority and grace. She’s the oldest, and the one in charge, so I used the above dress as inspiration for her. 

Keiko’s dress was chosen to reflect that she’s probably the closest thing this story has to a villain. She shares the color black with Mrs Prescott, but her outfit is entirely black, and a bit more sinister, since she’s actively working against the group to see them fail. 

Josephine’s outfit was inspired by the blue dress in this picture. Something innocent, and cutesy, with gloves that draw attention to her idle hands. 

Sally-Mae’s dress is by far the most cute, however. I wanted her to scream demure innocence, as a contrast to her raunchy personality. Something that it would be impossible to touch herself in, and that would make her look like the most adorable, sexless one in the group. 

Regina’s dress is the most mature of the students’, and the one most similar to a typical housewife’s dress. Even at a fancy dinner party, she looks like a housewife. 

And finally, the outfit worn by the girl who got away. Modern, sensible, and yet still refined and elegant in its own way. She’s turned her life around without the academy’s special methods of education and has chipped out a life for herself as just a normal young woman.
