Comfort Characters and Asmr Roleplay

The following are my personal opinions and speculation. Call it a theory.

I've had a great many comfort characters growing up. There was no one person in particular. I'd latch on to one for a while, then find another. My main comfort character was my character, the heroine of the book series I've written and published.

I feel like comfort characters let people experience things, and feel emotions, they couldn't have in their world. It's like a friend, but one you don't have to impress or put in any work to keep. Just a friend who's always there when you need them.

That's a valuable thing to have.

ASMR Roleplay does the same thing, but it makes it feel more real. It puts you directly into the story. It lets you live in a similar universe to a character. It makes you a character.

My theory is that we find safety in fiction. As long as it's not real, we can explore new experiences and emotions while still feeling safe. I know I do. I let myself be immersed in books, movies, and asmr roleplay to escape.

The stories might not always be happy and carefree. They might be tense and thrilling at times. But it's still safe because it's not real.

And yet, it's not real. You want it to be real so badly. I want it to be real. But it's not. And I think that's for the best. If it was real, I'd have the same problems I do now and even worse ones. Still, it's fun to escape for a while.

That's all for now. Hope you have a good day. :)
