Mum who lives too far away to show up unannounced discovers unsolicited video calls

A mother who lives too far away from her autistic daughter to “just pop by” has discovered that unexpectedly video calling is almost as satisfyingly intrusive, it has been revealed.
Karen Hoyland, 64, said: “At first I was upset when my daughter Emma moved across the country for her job, leaving me with nobody to call round on without warning, but it didn’t take take long for the benefits to become clear.”
She explained: “It used to be the case that Emma had to come downstairs in at least some state of dress and answer the door when I decided to ‘just poke my head in’. Now that barrier is removed. I can wake her up, catch her in the middle of meetings and once I even got her on the loo!”
“It was great.”
Daughter Emma Bernard said: “I guess I’m going to have to move time zones.”
