Autism prefers to think of itself as “with person”

Autism has issued a statement, declaring that it prefers identity-first language.

It said: “I’m a list of complex traits that exist in a constant state of flux. I’m so much more than my person.”

“Defining me by the person I happen to be attached to, also known as person-first language, diminishes me as the complete neurological difference that I am,” the statement continued.

“I don’t want to be thought of as an intrinsic part of Dexter, who is obsessed with antique slide rules,” autism went on. “Or Lottie, who can’t flirt without doing a finger gun and saying ‘right back atcha’.”

“I’m my own autism,” it concluded. “Other disabilities can self-define however they want but personally I’m sick of being blamed for everything and I don’t need a label.”
