The Future Plans of Darkness Falls

Now 4.02 is out, I thought I'd share what I'm currently planning for the next version of Darkness Falls.

First, it'll be version 4.1, which will absolutely be a "restart required" build. The reason for that, is I'm planning to go through the progression file, remove some perks that aren't needed and combine them with others to help streamline progression a little bit.

I'm also planning to tweak some quests, specifically rewards (like making T4 and T5 better for a start due to the time investment for fetch/clear), add some biome exclusions to the scout quests so hopefully people won't be sent to the wasteland... hopefully.

Secondly, I'm going to be trying to make DF as "modlet" as possible as it will make updates between alphas a LOT easier for me. This is going to be a big job, so that means 4.1 is not going to be out for a while... like not until A20.4 or A20.5 at least.

However, when the compo pack is done, I may do a 4.03 update with just compo pack and bug fixes in it.

Also, we've been talking about rebalancing blades a little. Specifically, knives vs machetes. The current plan, from talking with the testers, is to make knives work more like Knuckles... so low stamina usage, fast attack speed, low damage, while machetes will work more like clubs with higher damage, slower attack speed and more stamina usage.

Having said that, I think machete's are in a reasonable place right now, so it's likely they'll just get stamina usage tweaks. As patreons, your thoughts on this would be appreciated.

And yes, this means i'll be adding a scrap knife and iron knife. Plus an iron or steel machete so there's a better tier progression for those weapons.

To that extent, I don't think you should have to read 3 schematics in order to make scrap armor. You don't need schematics to make cloth, so its heavy armor equivalent, scrap, shouldn't need it either.

Another item that I know you've talked about, is changing heavy armor to have just a stam penalty and not a mobility penalty. My thought on this, was to change the armor between Security and Survivalist. Perhaps make Security specialise in the heavy armor, scrap, iron, steel (and titanium). While having Survivalist deal with the light armor, cloth, leather, military. Though instead of military being a mastery only item, have it unlock through schematics like steel, or have Survivalist unlock it with one of the lvl 5 perks. Military armor is supposed to be the light equivalent of steel, but its only unlocked via a mastery currently in DF, and with merchants selling it fairly early, and it being common in mid-game loot.....there doesnt seem much of a point in having the crafting locked behind a mastery.

Personally, I'd like to see another difference between knives and machetes. Where as the knives deal more with bleeding damage, since they are fast attacking. While machetes have a higher decapitation chance. Because, you're not really going to decapitate someone with a knife without a lot of effort.

Jerky and mineral water are both under Survivor 4

Jerky is no longer a mastery item. Off the top of my head, I don't remember what perk it's under, but it's a normal class perk now. So you can get that nice and early. We are discussing options for buffing survivalist to bring it in line.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but all the classes seem very well balanced with each other except Survivalist. The watch is the only reason I pick it up, I dont spend any points on the skills and because it's the last mastery I pick up. I'm already using coil weapons and have a nice farm so the M1 and Jerky aren't of much use by then. Not sure what would balance it but would like to hear opinions. And thanks again for all your work, time and effort, Khaine.

I like this, anything that can help you do tweaks easier I'm all for

Okay so it benefits us :P <3

It'll all still be in the DarknessFalls Core. It'll mostly benefit me. Basically "Do a lot of work now, for less work updating to new alphas later". Which then means you folks get DF faster for new alphas. In theory. :)

I think the knife machete change is very well over due. Looking forward to this! Also making DF modlet benefits you or us as well? Very intrigued by this concept.
