REAL TIME High Quality SPEED PAINT! A Classic Method Made Better

You can probably tell that I had a lot of fun with this one XD

If you are a beginner with the airbrush this is probably the best way to start playing with it! The use is limited to the first sketchy phase where the stakes are super low and everything is quickly and easily fixable, and to the end phase where the high transparency required by the process makes the single puffs truly invisible, so you can't really do any damage (and here I included the "mixing shots" where you can better see the levels of dilution and transparency I use for the smoothing/glazing stage), while in the middle you have a pretty classic brushwork in which the main change is in the more painterly and "abstract" style of the brushstrokes.

This painting style has been in the air since the advent of the airbrush in miniature painting but a small part of the Spanish painting community is definitely the group that really leaned into it making it a versatile method able to deliver both gaming and display quality.
Definitely not the fastest way to paint an army, but very good in terms of balance of time/quality for heroes, monsters and focal models of a larger force where you still need speed but you want that extra visual richness!

! A deep cut note that I couldn't include in the YT video !
For the smoothing phase I used Golden High flow.
In this phase you want an high transparency and a subtle general impact so inks are not the best choice because even if their transparency is in that same ballpark, their high saturation and staining power are simply too strong.
Golden High flow is just standard acrylic paint that starts from the bottle from an higher level of fluidity, so basically I just use less thinner to bring them to the point I need; it's totally one of those cases where "I used them because I have them" XD and any other standard acrylic brought to that same transparency/dilution is perfect for the job.
! Even Deeper cut !
If you have these paints you know that they are slightly glossy (especially in thick layers/applications), but don't worry: airbrush thinner is a matting agent, to the point where you can use it pure in thin sprayed passes as a subtle matt varnish (full credits: I got this one from a workshop with Pepa Saavedra! It happens because of the super quick evaporation coming from the alcohol component of the thinner, and quick evaporations always lead to more matt finishes, no matter the kind of paint you are using), so when the paint is diluted to this point the finish is not really a problem! But if you are still worried you can use a drop of real matte varnish.

Enjoy and have a great weekend!!!
