Definitely too much pressure! You have to be extremely gentle while taking off the paint. I strongly suggest to avoid varnish because the loss in quality it's huge with just a little bit of protection added to the model (it's just another thin layer of paint so not really protective). The hand has to be trained a bit but with a couple of experiments you'll find the perfect pressure to apply!

Just gave this a try and i ended up taking layers of the acrylic off when removing the wash. Is that too much pressure, too much spirits on the cotton bud or something else?
