January '25 Progress Report

Hello! This is gonna be a shorter Progress Report, because this month has been a very bad one!

WHAT HAVE I BEEN UP TO?

At the beginning of the month, I was making a lot of progress in reorganizing my office—I had just finished taking everything out of the cabinets and installing some sliding shelves when the wildfires started.

Karen and I were displaced for most of the month, but we are overwhelmingly lucky that our apartment is still standing. Between the fires and the news cycle, it has been exceedingly difficult to focus. I feel like my brain is running 15 different applications in the background, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that feeling.

WHAT'S UP NEXT?

Karen and I have been treating this past week as the REAL start of the year. It's when all of the resolutions are actually kicking in, and we have finally moved past cleaning ash and smoke odor out of the house and back into reorganizing things.

I'm actually making some progress on a completely new project: a series of horror short stories! I started them while we were displaced because that's all I could really manage, but I'm really excited about it.

I think I'll either turn them into videos or into some strange new multimedia project. A zine? A series of podcasts? A few animations? Maybe handing them out to cool creatives I know to direct their own versions? I've changed the Jorts Enthusiast tier to include "Early Drafts of Long-Term Projects" for this very reason because I'd like to share first drafts of the short stories, but I'm also TERRIFIED of showing first drafts of anything. Maybe this will help me get over that fear!
