This album is very J-pop compared to their usual K-Pop releases. They also promote a ton in Japan, so they are very much a japanese unit in NCT. SM has been very intentional about their korean and japanese releases and branding.

Although… it might be influenced by the poppop mini album, because for example the previous summer Colorful mini album is on the same level as this one (for me). But even from their first studio album I can only point out Nasa (excluding singles which were already released), which is also a thing… We finally got Japanese mini album, but right before their Korean studio album which is coming soon and will be promoted way more. I do not even mind them having less Japanese releases, when your “product” is doing well on a certain market, you will not go like: “We should focus on something else, not this market!” The only thing I want is SM to be taking their Japanese releases with high standard if it is once in a while. Like if this was like poppop mini album but in Japanese, I would be like: “Okay! Keep me waiting if this is what I am going to get from their Japanese discography” But so far it feels like SM even does not want them to be a Japanese unit and they are like a “younger group” to Riize as NCT 127 had NCT Dream (excluding the cross-over factor of HaeChan and Mark…) and so SM simply “force” themself to give them a Japanese release just for the sake of it and then continues to focus on their Korean career.

2026-03-18 14:34:43 +0000 UTCIt is not only that poppop is superior (to Colorful or anything), but this song was made to be in Japanese! To me the chorus fits Japanese phonetics more and in general the song has such a J-Pop vibe.
