Food for thought: Play this at my funeral

You know I see that joke a lot: “play this at my funeral”.

So let’s do a fun thought exercise: what is the ONE song you want playing at your funeral if it’s K-Pop, and if you could curate a 5 track playlist to play on loop what songs would you play?

If I had but one choice PROBABLY: icantfeelanything - NCT DREAM (even for the ironic title alone)

For a 5 track playlist though:

My list is inspired to feel very cosmic, like a never ending emotional journey. Also just for kicks play “Set Me Free Pt. 2” as you lower my casket into the ground.

What songs do you want playing at your funeral?

My shawol heart saw 5 songs, 5 members so… One song SHINee - Kind 1. Onew - Way 2. Jonghyun - End of a Day 3. Key - Eighteen (End of my World) 4. Minho - Falling Free 5. Taemin - Unknown Sea And because I have dark humor, I also made the diabolical version: SHINee - Don’t Call Me 1. Onew - No Parachute 2. Jonghyun- Let Me Out 3. Key - Hate That 4. Minho - I Don’t Miss You 5. Taemin - Rise

For one song, it’s definitely going to be “Ocean” by NMIXX “You're the ocean that fills my heart” This song gives me chills every time I listen to it. My soul feels at peace as if my body is floating on water, becoming one with the ocean. I hope that in the end, I can become the ocean that fills the heart of someone who’s still alive. For a 5-track playlist: 1. High Horse – NMIXX “Sick of that high horse, our minds don’t work like theirs.” 2. Change – i-dle “Life has ups and downs, it’s alright. Nothing lasts forever.” 3. So Far Away – Agust D ft. SURAN “Dream, may all of creation be with you till the end of your life.” 4. Wildflower – RM with Youjeen “Flower field, that’s where I’m at. Open land, that’s where I’m at. No name, that’s what I have. No shame, I’m on my grave.” 5. Snooze – Agust D ft. Ryuichi Sakamoto (R.I.P.) & WOOSUNG “You, who’s dreaming while looking at me. I’m always here behind you, so don’t worry too much. If you’re afraid of falling, I’ll gladly catch you, so you won’t suffer the way I did.” Ocean 🌊 for my rest in peace, and the rest to inspire those who keep on living ✌️💐

Wait I love seeing all the SHINee songs in here. This is a tough question I never thought about it 🧐 but the first songs that come to mind are (in no specific order): An Encore - SHINee Grown Ups - Sondia The Rainy Night - NCT 127 Star - Colde Our Season - Jonghyun And I know this one isn’t kpop but I love Dream by Keshi 😂

juls

-turbulence by ateez (!) -home by seventeen -in my dreams by red velvet -we got so much by lesserafim -kind by shinee honestly choosing the rest were hard bc that’s such a specific atmosphere but i immediately knew i had to include turbulence and home. i think turbulence playing at my funeral would make me come back from the dead just so i could sob to it and then i’d die again. i have full-body sobbed all three times i’ve seen it live

Brooklyn

Ayo - SHINEE Heavenly - NCT Dream It's You - SUJU Timeless - NCT U Another Life - RIIZE

The One Song If I could only have one K-Pop song played at my funeral, it would have to be something by ONEWE — a band whose music already feels like memory, like starlight fading but never gone. I can’t choose just one, so it’s somewhere between Stay, Beautiful Ashes, Eraser, or A Book in Memory. Each of them carries a piece of what I imagine the people I’ve left behind might feel — that mixture of love, ache, and quiet remembering that lingers long after someone is gone. Stay, especially, has that dual meaning I can’t let go of — both ONEWE and ONEUS sing it together, as if two worlds overlap for a moment. It sounds like connection, even in separation. Beautiful Ashes burns softly, like something once bright returning to dust but leaving behind warmth. Eraser feels like the wish to undo time, to smooth out the ache of loss. And A Book in Memory — it’s everything that remains: pages of moments, laughter, and love written into someone else’s story. Whichever one plays, I’d want it to speak for the people still here. Not for me — I’d be beyond sound by then — but for the ones standing in the quiet, holding on. I’d want them to know that grief is just another form of love, that the song isn’t a goodbye but a reminder: I was here, and I loved you deeply enough to stay in memory. My K-Pop Funeral Playlist: A Journey from Earth to Eden If I could curate a five-track playlist for my funeral, I’d want it to tell a story — not just about death, but about everything that happens after. I wanted songs from my top groups that carry emotional weight, and maybe even a touch of irony. The progression moves from the world I’m leaving behind to the peace I hope to find somewhere beyond it. 1. Scoups & Mingyu — “Earth” Wouldn’t a song called Earth be the perfect (and slightly ironic) way to start a funeral? It marks the beginning — or maybe the end — of my connection to the physical world. The sound is ethereal, like the moment my soul realizes it’s no longer tethered here. There’s a strange beauty in it, the way it captures both grounding and release, as if the last breath of life blends into the music itself. 2. BTS — “Dimple” Okay, yes — it’s about an “illegal” dimple, but hear me out. I chose it for the wordplay, a little humor amid the heaviness. In this story, I can’t return to Earth, so I’ve become “illegirl” — a soul without a body, caught somewhere in between. The song brings a bit of warmth and personality back into the moment, a reminder that love, beauty, and laughter don’t disappear just because I did. 3. MONSTA X — “Lost in the Dream” Here’s where the story shifts. This song feels like floating — like realizing I’ve left everything behind but haven’t quite accepted it yet. The lyrics describe confusion, longing, and the blurred line between reality and illusion. For me, it’s the sound of wandering in the space between life and death, still clinging to the fragments of what was. My death feels like a dream I can’t wake from, and I’m trying to understand whether I’m really gone or just lost in another layer of existence. 4. ATEEZ — “Dazzling Light” If Lost in the Dream is the disoriented wandering, Dazzling Light is the moment my soul finally begins to see the way forward. I imagine myself standing in the dark, unsure of where I am, when a faint light flickers ahead — soft, distant, but real. The lyrics about searching for the answer and believing in oneself turn into my inner realization: that peace isn’t found by escaping darkness, but by walking through it. This is the turning point, the shift from confusion to clarity, from fear to calm. 5. ONEUS — “Intro: EDEN” The journey ends here, with a single lyric that feels like a promise: “We’re gonna reach for Eden.” It’s not about heaven or perfection, but about hope — the idea that there’s still something beautiful to reach for, even beyond life. Eden isn’t an ending; it’s renewal, reunion, light after all the wandering. So, if my funeral had a soundtrack, this would be it: a story that begins on Earth, stumbles through loss and uncertainty, and finally finds its way toward peace — shimmering and eternal, in the dazzling light of Eden.

wow I'm really loving these questions from you lately, makes me bring back my brain to work everytime lol. These type of questions are the hardest for us kpop fans. The worst part about this question is that I actually have a playlist dedicated to that but there are almost 3000 songs in it (both non kpop and kpop). I'm pretty sure more than half of it is kpop, so there's still so much to choose from... oh well:)) All I know for sure is that I'm def making everyone listen to songs by got7, day6, xdinary heroes and exo at my funeral. And not only the sad ones but also the fun and hard hitting ones so I could dance and sing in my coffin one last time. The first song that comes to my mind rn is Lost and Found by xdinary heroes, my fav song from their newest album. This song together with the mv really broke me, I was crying so much. Can't wait for you to hear it. I tried so hard to choose the other 5 songs: got7 - You Are day6 - Love me or Leave me xdinary heroes - George the Lobster exo - Moonlight jonghyun - Hallelujah (one of the first songs that inspired me to make my funeral playlist)

Ugne Jablonskyte

Night reminicing - Luna Moonchild - RM Over - Epik High Another Day - SKZ Maybe - HAN

aicrylic (aimee)

For one song I would choose Star Crossing Night by The8. But outside of K-pop, here's my 5 song tracklist: Hello Heaven, Hello - Yungblud Matter of Time - Ashton Irwin NASA - Dean Dream - Keshi Slip Away - Luke Hemmings (Also honorary mention to "44" by Woosung & "When We Die" by Yungblud bcz both of those are a tie with what songs I already have in this list)

Natasha Huppler

One choice: IF you leave me - Seventeen 5 song playlist: 1. 247 - Seventeen 2. 1, 2, 7 (Time Stops) - NCT 127 3. Our Dawn is Hotter Than Day - Seventeen OR Our Summer (acoustic mix) - TXT 4. Just One Day - BTS 5. Wild Flower (with youjeen) - RM No reason, just that I feel like this summarizes my kpop experience so far! Lyrically and sonically might not fit the vibe but idc it's MY funeral lol Honorable Mention / As I'm lowered into the ground: TFW (That Feeling When) - Enhypen
