Listening Party: BABYMONSTER 'WE GO UP' EP

WOW haven’t heard that song in forever

Can’t help singing “I want you in my room” after the boom boom boom part in supa dupa luv… 🫠

I don't like the direction K-pop is heading. When 75% of the songs are in English and 25% have Korean embellishments, there's no way we can still call it K-pop. Even rap is mostly in English, and that makes it sound generic.

for me its we go up and psycho my favs and then supa dupa love, i dont vibe much with country music so i guess thats my problem not that it was a bad song. Also i think we go up was made to target more internationally rather than domestically it has that western coded flavor and i believe that this is the song that will lure more international fans into bm. As far as rami concerned i also miss her both in music and their variety content since she is so fun character i like her personality hopefully she is doing good and will be back for the next promotions. Now about the production idk i believe choice and airplay taking part in most of their discography so far, i mean this ep and drip album has kinda similar vibe whatsoever and sheesh ep also. I think you mostly know what to expect at some extent but i can hear what you say lets wait and see the next comeback. For me i want them to optimize all members abilities and especially asa/rita/rora the rest of them have been shining so long and when the girls mentioned showing up i am like '' i wished they had longer or better parts ''

"We Go Up" the MV now has over 96 Million views in 12 days while the exclusive Performance video has over 72 Million views in 8 days. Any chance we get to see your reaction to the "We Go Up" performance video that has gone viral? Or their two Behind the Secenes videos (M/V Making Film, Recording Behind)? "We Go Up" released on October 10, got 1st place on the 41st week (2025.10.05–2025.10.11) Album Chart, recording 533,686 copies sold, and 560,473 total including the Nemo Album version (a new record for them). They're the first 5th Gen Female Group that crossed 2 Million total album sales. They also topped the iTunes Worldwide Albums Chart, the Hanteo Weekly Album Chart and the Japan’s Oricon Daily Chart. Their first music show win for "We Go Up" was on M Countdown (25/10/16). You can't argue their success. Btw. Choice37 (and YG) are producers on almost all of their tracks. So you could argue, they have the role that Teddy had for Blackpink. For me their releases also feel like a very consistent and natural sound / progression for them. As for this Mini: "Psycho" > "Supa Dupa Luv" > "We Go Up" > "Wild" I get why "We Go Up" is the title but at first I was only luke warm on it (I think the soundmixing falls flat for me and they could've done more with the chorus and progression) but after multiple listens it grew on me. Still not Top 3 Babymonster for me but I like it now. "Psycho" and "Supa Dupa Luv" are amazing though. The only song that I still don't like on this Mini is "Wild". Thats just not my music. But I'm happy that they try different things and aren't stuck in one style.

PSYCHO WAS THE TITLE?? Missed chance

UGH I had the SAME thought about Somi’s album. She looks like debut era teenager ish and it doesn’t capture the essence of the album. Literally her MNET comeback stage for Closer thumbnail is a better album cover iykyk

Something about BAEMON feels like cosplay a bit. I don’t think they’ve figured out the formula yet. And it’s weirdly true what you say cus I’m gonna be honest. I love BAEMON as people (I will fight BAEMON haters and protect Ahyeon) and let’s throw izna in too. IZNA might be my second fav girl group in terms of members out there right after tripleS. But like you said, I wasn’t feeling them at first but MEOVV suddenly is really leading the charge musically. I look more forward to MEOVV music I think more than aespa, tripleS, izna, etc. Despite their controversies, ALLDAYPROJECT too. Look at the success of K-POP DEMON HUNTERS music! Teddy is a master producer and he reallyyyyy knows how to make music that excites you. And THE BLACK LABEL really knows how to make incredible music. Taeyangs SHOONG? Almost all of Somi’s recent music? MEOVV? ADP? I personally think The Black Label is straight up releasing a different caliber of music.

the interesting thing about "finding their sound" though is that they worked consistently with the same team of producers ever since Last Evaluation, which are mainly Choice37 and his team + YG. So it's not like they keep switching up the producers but they do it on purpose, at least that's what it feels like to me. It's a double concept of being both "babies" and "monsters" at the same time, hence some of the softer and more playful sounding songs and then in contrast hard hitting, badass songs like Sheesh or We Go Up. Kinda reminds me of Red Velvet (not soundwise) with their Red (bright and bubbly) and Velvet (mature, rnb) sides as a concept. So I do feel like they did actually find their sound with this EP & suits them very well imo (i think songs like Billionaire, Really Like You & Love, Maybe from the Drip album suit this style really well too).

Hmm… your thoughts at the end of BLACKPINK having music to gain new fans and not just make the current fans happy: I think here comes the factor of Teddy missing. And I do not mean sound-wise! But I notice this with MEOVV in comparison to Baemon. I mean… I dare to say it is obvious I love Baemon from the bottom of my heart. But with MEOVV I see myself getting into them for and more every release (and I did not like Meow at first) and Burning Up makes their whole discography and them as a group grow on me SO FUCKING MUCH. By that I want to say that this Teddy character (haha) was really key factor for YG regarding how you sell music and musical acts to the world. Something like Steve Jobs knew how to present technology to people not interested or even scared of using technology. I mean, Yang Hyun Suk is a mastermind as well, but them working together made the crucial essence of YG Family, which grew through BIGBANG and more to the hyper level popularity of BLACKPINK. But the thing now is the reality Teddy managed to make his own name, brand and learnt everything he needed and that is why I assumed The Black Label might be super big one day. But that is not related to this listening party… My point is… besides having their own sound, I think Baemon members should at least try to get involved into the production as well if they are meant to follow Treasure in this regard. And I do not mean just like: “Let Asa get involved more, she is interested”, but actually teaching the other members too to see if they can come up with something and make their own sound. Because as you said yourself before: “I love Baemon (well, you say Babymonster…), but they are “just another Kpop act doing great”, but with Meovv, they do not feel like your regular Kpop group, which joined the scene” And that is what it used to be with YG acts, regardless of Teddy being their producer or not, you knew they are different.

Album covers do matter a lot! The latest Somi release? I was not interested at all because of how it looks. Then I saw your listening party being just the amount of time I had before going somewhere, so I played it and I was like: “AND YOU GIVE THIS ALBUM AN ALBUM COVER LIKE THAT??” Here it is not as bad as in the case of Somi, but it somehow represents how I feel about this release in general. I just was not sure if it was because of Rami missing and me not being able to get over the fact any member could be missing in this group. I like all the songs here, it is a solid comeback, but at the same time so far only Drip (the whole album) lived up to the standards they set for themselve in Last Evaluation.

15:15 - “THE FUCK” is what I was looking for! This song reminded your older statement saying something like: “Is it not interesting how country and hip hop are similar? Many artist of both genres tend to brag about their cars and women and how they drink alcohol.” Plus the factor of country being sort of USA’s folk/traditional music in this combination is really funny Your statement of cosplaying: I get your point. I feel like they want to get out of the “box labeled as BLACKPINK’s copy/another typical YG girl group” and so they experiment and try as many thing as possible to let people know they are versatile. Psycho should have been title track as well as they originally planned!! That song is SO GOOD! Or as I said before… they should have used We Go Up as a pre-release to give Rami time and then release Psycho as the final title track with her!
