Haikyu!! S2E24 + 25

Comments

i can never watch these episodes and NOT cry, seriously. i love Karasuno with all my heart, but Aoba Josai's loss also left me heartbroken. it really is amazing how fleshed out and grounded all characters of Haikyuu are, as opposed to only the main characters. such masterful writing and direction. on that note, i am with the others in hoping that you watch the extra scene that takes place after aoba josai's loss. you won't regret it, PD! https://youtu.be/Lao54_hFaA0?si=9n4of-Vrs0MqiZnw

That last point against Seijō will forever be iconic for me. Honestly you summed it up very well, you have this long rally, this back and forth and you are cheering for Seijō almost just as much as Karasuno. When the match ends you dont just feel the joy of Karasuno winning but also the the sadness of Aoba Johsai losing. This isnt just a volleyball game, this is a tale of teamwork, emotions, endless training, bonds and friendships. Haikyuu! and Attack on Titan will forever be my favorit anime/manga

oo i do hope you get to see that extra clip people are talking about, the aftermath of their loss. i only discovered it recently when rewatching on another channel and my heart is now so much more broken whenever I rewatch this episode

THIS FREAKING MATCH!!! Gosh, where do I even begin? I cried with you, PD, at the end of episode 24—that last look between Kageyama and Oikawa… T^T In anime communities, there's a running joke about Oikawa being one of the ultimate villains of the anime. Side by side with mass murderers, scums of earth, world-enders :D But man, I feel bad for him. He deserved a face-off with Ushijima. Not saying our boys didn’t deserve it, but—sooo many feeeeeellss!! I can’t believe the mangaka managed to top this ultimate match with Shiratorizawa arc, but he did. What a time to be alive and witness the greatness of manga storytelling! ^0^

Wah...rewatching the finale of the second season with you was making me emotional again. There is something that every sports anime gets across: how raw it is to be a human being. And the way some of the most intense moments are animated with very rough lines to just emphasis that feeling of unbridled energy, enthusiasm and passion. I feel this especially with Oikawa. Because Oikawa is a prime example of someone who is good through sheer hard work alone, holding his own in a sea of passionate natural talents/geniuses/prodigies. His inner monologue regarding talent and instincts just solidifies it. I know you will keep watching Haikyuu until you are caught up but I would really recommend you to watch Tsurune. It's a sports anime about Kyudo and what it means to be passionate again about something you used to love. And I think you would especially love it as a film person because they use so many different shots and colors to portray connections and emotions. (It has currently two seasons and a movie that is half recap + extra story from season 1 connecting to season 2)

everytime haikyuu sets up the hype for the last point, i feel like i can't breathe until the ball fricking drops!! it's these final moments where i really grew to love oikawa. he sees himself as different from kageyama, since he's not a 'genius' setter---he doesn't have the natural talent. So you can really see the desperation in him in that match, saying someth along the lines of "talent is something you bloom, instinct is something you polish", and that tells us how much effort and practice he put into getting where he is now despite not being a 'natural-born' talent. a nice little detail (if i remember correctly) about that last point rally is that all six members from each team actually got to touch the ball at some point, which perfectly captures "six who are strong are stronger" season 3 is gona be sooooo good!! awesome character arcs and insane animation as well. and thank you so much for reacting to season 2!!
