Crazy you guys post this now. About 2 weeks ago my group was having a bit of issues with not having fun. I as a DM wasn't having fun, and the players weren't having fun. The players weren't engaging with each other or the environment, they weren't trying to further the story (except for like 1 of them out of 5) and I as a DM was having my failings too. I wasn't setting up an environment or vibe for engagement. We literally solved this by all having a heart to heart and communicating what we wanted from the session and it's already improved dramatically. At the end of the day, communication is the key to having fun with D&D. And if what you guys want don't line up? Sometimes you have to leave and join a new group. Luckily our group all wanted pretty much the same thing so we're all still playing.
