Live builds?

So while the Patreon Hangout is processing, i'd like to ask all of you if live streams of 3D printer (or project?) builds would be something you'd be interested in! It would be easy enough for me to grab a capture card and do some high-quality, public streams straight from the studio, and obviously, these would be published to YouTube afterwards.

Inspired by what Shaso ( https://www.twitch.tv/shasoaunla ) is doing right now with Rene's DICE 3D printer

Comments

This live is good idea. Not forgot absolute great videos of different things on 3d printing.

Pasi L.

Rather than livestreaming, a discussion of what the difficult areas of a print would be, why they are difficult, and ways to overcome the problems. That would cover more of the interests of different model owners.

Michael Tria

Live streams of a printer build would be fine for someone that is wanting to build the same printer. I think detailed videos of selecting major components for different style printers would be more helpful. For example - Why would someone want to select a Smoothieboard or Duet over a Rambo or Rumba to control their printer? Which firmware would be the best choice? Detailed videos of subjects like this would, IMHO, help a larger segment of the community. Also, the Q&A session last week was really helpful. One final thought - In your videos please give a link to all of the parts you discuss in the video if you are doing a comparison of parts.

Orin

I would definitely like live streams or longer video for the more challenging builds. Time lapses are fine for overviews, simple tasks, and where things go perfectly as planned, but there is no substitute for good footage working through the problems. A stream of the build probably is the fairest way for your viewers to evaluate printer kits.

Please don't do just timelapses (they're funny, but nor particularly helpful), and don't limit yourself to an hour, or a similarly arbitrary timespan (though splitting the whole thing up into multiple, clearly labeled chapters - building the frame, putting together the extruder, etc. - would be great). The educational part is really being able to see how everything is done in detail, including any missteps.

LKM

Yes, but only if it was less than an hour. Or you could do a timelapse build like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVd0Vkvk72w&list=PLc7Ek7-lcXDb4kY4oYXdpplOj9ly9COeH

Paul Woods

Yes, i totally would watch it! First of all, thank you for your mention, I feel honored. At this stream i learned many things and without the help of Rene, I would gave up sooner :D I'm now, let's say, about 80% done with the build, much wiring to do and many finishing touches. I streamed it for about 12 hours so there was much trial and error which you can cut out in a post editing.

Live feeds aren't my thing. Bandwidth in the 'outback' outside Nashville TN is so bad, ... well let's say that live feeds don't do well for me.

Jack in TN

Id be interested in that, I think because it like to see where it goes wrong for the learning experience.

Mike Woods

Sounds great!

Marko Niskanen

I might not be able to watch it live, but I'd love to see the detail of how you decide to choose the components and how you put them together. Sounds great!

Al McKague

Sounds awesome, but like others said, I probably would watch the YouTube videos rather than watch it live.

Bryan Fisher

Perhaps I'm the odd one out here but, I don't see myself watching a live feed as much as I watch and rewatch and re-rewatch your old videos. I'm usually trying to pick out details that I can directly to my own builds.

Danny Leckman

I find these extremely enjoyable and educational, so I'd love to watch yours, maybe with some commentary about the things you're building, what you like and don't like about their designs. And please take René up on his offer :-)

LKM

Sounds good to me!

Kelanel

It'd be very cool, perhaps even worthy of a second youtube channel

Jordan

That would be gr4eat

Orin

would be cool

John Cutburth

If you want to build a DICE, I have the material :D

Rene Jurack

Go for it. English pls :D

Rene Jurack

Yes please!

Jonathan Charnas

Yes, definitely do this. I probably can't watch live, but I will definitely watch them at some point.

Brandon Terry

I personally like these but don't have the time to watch them but I can see how others woukd
