An Update

I feel like I owe you all a bit of an update of what's going on behind the scenes. As much as I can, I try to stick to the bi-weekly video release schedule, as I feel like that's what you all came here for and support my work for, but everything else, like Q&A hangouts, has kinda been falling off the cliff for the last couple of months. Hey, so the buildout of the new studio and the majority of the move is done - now it's on to making the most of the new space. Hey, I've got an apology to make. Looking for input on a 3D printing basics series!

A few years ago, I had worked with what is now LinkedIn Learning to produce a basics / primer series on DIY 3D printing. That series is now pretty badly outdated... and also behind a paywall. So the plan is to produce a new, updated series myself that is going to be available free for everyone here on YouTube. I've already got 10 episodes sketched out (planned release all throughout June), but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything.

Project Sneak Peek

Finishing 3D print to not look like 3D prints anymore can turn into a huge chore - so I've started experimenting with using one printing material (resin) to refine another (filament). The results so far are super promising as it's quick and easy to apply, yet very effectively hides layers - stay tuned for the video later this week!

Video sneak peek

Hey, you may have seen a notification pop up earlier today about a new video - which was an accident! The video is supposed to go live on Monday, but I guess I can already share it with you all here ;-)

The printing process One Click Metal are using is super interesting and actually really straightforward, and with the core patent having recently expired it feels a lot like the start of RepRap with FDM/FFF 3D printing.

Project sneak peek

If you've been seeing my recent tweets (@toms3dp) about topology optimization for a super simple shelf bracket, you'll know about these parts. If not, well, I've been working on figuring out Topo Optimization in Fusion360 and I'll have a video up soon soon that explains the process, pitfalls and results!

As you can see in the photo - the results are pretty nice! Just like the Printrbot Play, this bracket easily holds my entire weight, even when printed oriented in a way that layer adhes...

What do you want to know about heated beds?

I'll be filming a video on the thermal performance of various types of heated beds tomorrow, using a FLIR camera and a bunch of different tests I've already sketched out. But the question is, what do you want to see tested or mythbusted when it comes to how well different setups perform?
Also, if you've already made up your mind on what the "best" type of heated bed is, which one do you think will overall perform the best and why?

Logo thoughts?

New year, new you, right? I've been playing with the idea of a bit of a logo and channel redesign, as the current design language only works well in a few places - and even there, it's a bit awkward to use.

This is a concept that I created in Illustrator and would love your feedback on it! Your opinions on whether I should make changes to the channel name to make it easier to remember and find were already super helpful as the consensus was to keep "Tom's 3D" as the main name.

Hey there! You may have noticed that the channel was missing reviews for a while now, and there were a few reasons for it: Many products didn't work out as intended since I basically received an unfinished beta version, but I also got frustrated by seeing other outlets publishing one-sided "reviews" just for the goal of generating affiliate sales.

Sneak peek - speaker project!

Hey, just wanted to share a a peek into a bigger project I've been working on - designing a full home cinema speaker set from scratch!
