November 2025 Content Update - New GHS Video In Production, Kirby Air Riders, Crash Bandicoot, More
Added 2025-11-22 00:22:26 +0000 UTCHey, everybody!
It’s Liam here with an update for all my lovely supporters in the Silver Tier and up. I want to provide a quick update on upcoming content like my next video.
I haven’t been able to record a podcast this week due to, believe it or not, external damage to my recording studio. Recent weather actually broke a part of the window in that room of my apartment, which is where I record all audio for my podcasts and videos. It's freezing cold in my corner of the world now and we've even had some snow this week, so you can imagine how bloody chilly it is in there (no thanks!). I'm in the process of having that fixed and that should be sorted by the start of next week. So, thankfully, it's just a short term issue but that's why there will be nothing dropping this week. Sorry about that.
Anyway...
Next Game History Secrets Video Update
As I've mentioned before in recent videos/podcasts, my next investigative video is well underway and will focus on Nintendo's history with voice chat and specifically, why Nintendo chose not to include voice chat on the original Nintendo Switch. Voice chat is built in to Switch 2 as you know, but Nintendo took a very different approach with the first Switch and relegated its voice chat service to a smart phone app that nobody uses. The video will explore this in-depth and shed some light on the behind the scenes decision making that led to this unusual situation.
I've finished the script for this video and I'm in the process of capturing footage for it. When my recording studio is habitable again, I'll record the voiceover for it and it should come together fairly quickly (here's hoping). My plan is to get that video out to you before the end of the month. It should be about 20-30 minutes long, going by a very rough estimate.
Initially, I wasn't happy with the script so I decided to redo it and cut it down. I thought there were too many extraneous parts and I wanted it to be more focused and concise. I didn't want to give the impression that I was padding the video (people on YT are hyper critical of this nowadays as well). There were a few facts I'd learned when researching that I had initially included because I thought they were interesting, but found them ultimately to be too off topic for the scope of the video. When I do my usual Patreon exclusive post-mortem video after this video is done, I'll share whatever it was I cut there.
I never want to just rush one of these videos out but after some editing, I'm happy with the script. I think it's pretty interesting and makes for a fun trip down memory lane. I reckon it'll highlight facets of Nintendo's relationship with voice chat that people haven't really considered before. A lot of people seem to think that Nintendo just hates online communication for some reason or another when that's clearly not the case at all. I hope you all look forward to it. You'll be the first to see the video as always... in the pretty near future.
Kirby Air Riders
In the way of other short term plans, I'm thinking of doing a video or a podcast talking about Kirby Air Riders soon. As a newcomer, I have been enjoying that game hugely! I'm very impressed by how fully featured it is. Sakurai and his team did a great job and I hope people actually go out and buy it since hardly anyone I know has done so far. The racing is a blast both online and offline, but it's the story mode that has surprised me the most. It is surprisingly addictive and fun - an interesting evolution of what Sakurai has done in past single player Smash Bros. modes. The snappy game loop makes it very hard to put down and I find myself oddly intrigued by the plot even though I don't really have a sodding clue what's going on. When you experience the high level Kirby lore going on in this game, you begin to realise that Masahiro Sakurai simply operates on a level we cannot fathom.
There is so much to do in Kirby as well. Between this and Age of Imprisonment, Nintendo will keep me very busy over the holiday period this year. Wait, what's this? They're dropping a new Metroid Prime game in less than two weeks? Fuck me...
Crash Bandicoot Nonsense
One more thing before I go - I did see some people on X/Twitter (the source of exactly nothing good) claiming I had 'confirmed' that no Crash Bandicoot game was in development or something to that effect. Anyone who actually listened to the last podcast knows that isn't what I said. I am not omnipresent and I don't know that definitively either way. I simply said that I wasn't aware of a new Crash platformer being in development. I think there is a meaningful nuance between those two things. That doesn't necessarily mean one isn't being made somewhere because, again, I'm not omniscient. It annoys me somewhat when my attempts to be candid with my audience are twisted into much more definitive statements like that. I try to be honest about this stuff and tell you what I do and don't know. If people want to run stories on the things I say on these shows, please at least have the decency to contact me first and ask me about it. Apart from being journalism 101, that's just basic common courtesy more than anything else.
I've gotten people messaging me, telling me that some of the usual Crash people are coming after me over this and to be honest, I find it impossible to summon the energy to care at this point. I don't have anything bad to say about those people and I wish them the best. If they want to waste their finite time on this Earth being mad at me for things I never said in the first place, then good luck with that! I will continue enjoying my life, doing things like seeing the world and spending time with the girl I'm in love with. Hey, don't worry! I'm sure getting mad about what someone on the internet said about a cartoon character must be equally as enriching.
