Friends-Only Episode 39: Loop It Through Jones! (b/w Welcome to Free City Newark)

Before The Matrix, but after John Matrix came the questionably memorable William Gibson adaptation Johnny Mnemonic.  A chunky stew, this one, a melange of downtown art types, young Ice-T, younger Keanu Reeves, peak Dolph Lundgren, and possibly as many as three different women with speaking parts (only one of whom gets to go absolutely ham with a rocket launcher).  So...maybe it's not what we would call an "entirely successful project", but it's a pretty interesting prefiguration of some successes we'd enjoy later.

So anyway, get ready to double yourself and hack your own brain, prepare yourself to hear Jay audition for a role in Hamlet, and, if anybody has a copy of the "Destroy the Original / Fax the Images to Newark" 7", please slide into our DMs about it (and nothing else!).

(Note from JWF -- I was totally wrong about Dolph Lundgren. This was the last movie he was in that was released in AMERICAN theaters until "The Expendables", but he continued to act in foreign films and direct-to-video/DVD releases in the interim. Also, towards the end of the episode I think I start referring to Takeshi Kitano as Beat (despite him being credited as Kitano in this film) without mentioning that they are, in fact, the same person, which feels like a flub. Oh well. Lots of gigabytes jammed in my wetware, y'all. Shit got scrambled.)
