Friends Only Episode #13 -- Game Informer (June 2017)

It's you, it's you, it's all for you, everything we do...we tell you all the time, heaven is a post right here for you, tell us all the books we should do, I heard that you like the bad books honey, is that true?  It's better than we ever even knew, they say that this show was built for two.  Only worth reading if somebody is hating you...baby now you do.

Go play your video game.

Music: "Protoculture" by Del The Funky Homosapien

[NOTE FROM J.W.: This episode might piss you off if you are the type of person who is like "I AM A GAMER AND GAMES ARE MY LIFE". I'm not sure if that bothers me or not. Either way, be forewarned going into it that much like our regular show, we made fun of some stuff. In this case, it may actually be stuff that you enjoy. Gird your loins.]

I’m late to this party but my wife and I are huge fans of your show and baseball and we would totally play the baseball game you guys described. This is a great ep; we got just as angry as you did about the corporate bullshit but in a funny way, so thanks. :)

I think a lot of your critique is on pointe, but it's too bad you guys ragged on speedrunners so hard. The community basically came out of poor kids growing up only being able to buy a few select games, and playing them over and over so often that they made challenges and new goals for themselves to keep it interesting. It makes sense that you would find it rediculous since it's a backwards concept for actually enjoying the medium, but for the most part the players are people who adore the game, and end up playing it for thousands of hours trying to find anything new, like glitches and shortcuts, just to squeeze out as much entertainment out of one game as possible. THe community also puts on events that raise millions for Doctors without Borders and cancer research, and is essentially born out of wanting to see their favorite games in a new light and can sometimes involve glitches that require very precise manuvers that can be quite impressive. Not that I think anyone needs to like it, everyone likes things for their own reasons like you mentioned, but I figured you lacked a bit of background knowledge on that front and it just happens to be dear to my heart. Most speedrunners are humble dudes with a small following and honestly work very hard practicing around the clock to make a good performace at one of these charity shows, including funny stunts like doing the run blindfolded or with one hand. I'm rambling, but loved the show regardless. Love getting these extra episodes.
