Added 2025-03-15 17:29:08 +0000 UTCYou move to the hallway closet, keying in the four-digit pin on the small digital lock. A soft beep follows, and the lock releases. Pushing aside a row of hanging coats, you reach for the false back panel, pressing at the edges until it clicks free.
Inside, three weapons sit in their places—a Glock 19, an AR-15, and a KA-BAR fighting knife. Below them, boxes of ammunition are stacked neatly. You grab a loaded magazine for the pistol, slamming it into place with a practiced motion, then rack the slide. The AR-15 comes next—mag in, bolt release slapped, a familiar mechanical clack breaking the tense silence. The KA-BAR is last. Its black-coated blade is smooth and sharp as you slide it into its sheath.
Jessica watches from the couch, her foot still bouncing slightly. When you turn back, she lets out a small breath, shaking her head.
“Well, at least you got some good weapons,” she says.
You move toward the door. Jessica pushes herself up, drawing the .38 revolver from the back of her shorts. She holds it loosely, turning it over before offering it forward, grip-first.
“I mean, I know how to shoot,” she says, tilting her head slightly. “But, uh… might be best if you take this one.” She offers you a huge smile and bites the corner of her lip.
