Added 2024-04-22 23:59:17 +0000 UTCFor those of you who have played Stronghold, you already know the general plot of the game. For those who have not, or do not wish to be spoiled, please do not proceed as this poll involves large spoilers about what happens to the MC at the end of chapter 1.

As you know, at the conclusion of Chapter 1, the character you control inevitably becomes infected with the Zeta virus. This is a designed part of the game that cannot be avoided. However, I've received feedback from several players who were unaware of this inevitability and attempted multiple times to avoid the infection. Eventually, they realized that it was an unavoidable aspect of the storyline.
To prevent player frustration and the repetitive cycle of restarting the game, I am considering ways to communicate this crucial plot point more clearly without significantly disrupting the immersive experience. I've brainstormed a few methods to convey this information early in the game, and I'm eager to hear your thoughts on these options.
Please choose any options that you believe I should implement, OR choose the last option if you don't think any should be included.

I know my answer is probably going to be the least popular. People do not like to fail at things, and when you know you must have succeeded in a roll to some people that means a good outcome MUST happen. When I ran into that circumstance I was using an unathletic priest so him getting bit made sense. Now I didn't know if avoiding it was possible, and I didn't know if that was the end of my character...until you released chapter 2. I still don't know if my guy will survive or can survive, but when it comes to that first moment. Let people eat it. Save scum, cheat, have at it. Eventually they'll see it is inevitable as some things in life are. If that is too much for people, then I would go with environmental cues. A good and perhaps important one would be mentioning that the Stronghold has been testing out a potential cure for the virus. Nothing too big, but perhaps a minor thing mentioned casually. Perhaps even with the drunkard.
