Star Trek: The Next... Rewrite?

I've been toying with the idea of whether I should continue TNG and move away from all the stats. Or just start over and rewrite this thing again.

1. I started the story as a solo RPG, and after TPM chapter, I feel like it became an actual story because I moved away from the rolls.  Prior to the Cognus fight in the Tomb, I was literally rolling every round of combat like a DnD game. It was cool at first because if I had downtime at work i'd just roll and record, then write around the rolls later. But it got to the point that Tyson's skills were so high after the Cognus fight there wasn't a point to rolling anymore. Additionally, it seemed like no one liked the rolls in the first place.

2. Keeping track of stats is terrible.

3. Tyson's power escalation was insane. For comparison, In Rogue Replacement, Tyson has a scaling ability that requires him to kill to gain traits. In TNG Tyson can get traits from a drop of blood or saliva. Which shouldn't be a problem, if not for him having so many other perks from quests.

The Rewrite would work as a Celestial Forge Style Jumpchain without the randomness, but a much slower point gain. If you aren't familiar with the Celestial Forge, as the story progresses, the character gains points based on the story's word count. Those points can be used to purchase powers or perks. TNG was originally working off a similar premise, but the issue was I didn't think I'd get very far in the story, so I was doing 10:1 aka 1 point for every 10 words. The rewrite would be 10x slower than that, or comparatively 5x slower than the Celestial Forge. I would also phase out the Mirror gamer and Tyson would have access to both universes.

Leave a comment or send a PM if you like it, or would like to see me progress the original story moving away from stats.
