Early Access. Carly Gregg Trial.
Added 2024-11-03 05:05:22 +0000 UTCHow's everyone's weekend going?
I've wrapped up work on the Carly Gregg case and will send it to the Youtube wolves next weekend.
Hope you enjoy. I believe this case is well covered, so if you know a lot about it and choose to watch this video, i'd be interested to hear your take on my telling of this story.
I'm taking the rest of the day off and tomorrow I'll be organising some things for a few streams this week, finding a new predator to do a commentary video on and getting a few other surprises together.
I'll catch you very soon. Thanks for being here.
Dave

I have a very close friend who has had a total of 6 episodes of psychosis over the years. I have seen him in the midst of 2 of the 6. The first of them happened when he was 21, all of them were set off by some combination of an unexpected stresser or heavy weed use. In the midst of the episodes, he was absolutely, completely paranoid, confused, and just illogical. He would believe that people were listening to his conversations, that animals were signaling to tell him things, or even that people were not actually who they were (like imposters). At one point during one of his episodes, he believed that my husband and I were trying to get him to have a 3some with us for no reason at all. But the one consistant thing was that at all times I've seen him during or just before/after the episode, we had to assist him with simple tasks. Like finding his way out of a house, using his phone, or remembering what he was doing a second ago. He was so lost and confused. He was never calm and in control, as Carly appears to be. He was not capable of being calculating, because he was so out of touch with reality, he just couldn't interpret things in any sort of logical way. And this is a guy who is sharp as a tack, probably has the highest IQ of anyone i know. I'm not saying everyone's episodes are the same. But I just have a hard time believing she was in the midst of an episode here... also happily my friend has now gone about 8 years managing his drug use and has been episode free. The brain is a crazy thing

2024-11-10 03:05:31 +0000 UTCI think this is quite possibly the worst 911 operator I've ever heard.

2024-11-09 05:07:38 +0000 UTCthank god you brought up the gun. That was my first thought watching that horrific camera footage. She grabbed it so fast. Like it was just sitting on a counter or something. Truly such an avoidable tragedy as you stated. If Carly had to think even 2 seconds about how to get the gun from a secured location, that may have been long enough for cooler minds to prevail and prevent this horrific action.

2024-11-05 19:20:39 +0000 UTCI had similar experiences at that age as well, I could really resonate with her entire life. My outlet at the time was violence towards myself. I was so volatile and emotionally unstable at that age. I’m so thankful now as an adult that I never had access to a gun and that I got to live past it to have the life I do now!

2024-11-05 17:11:18 +0000 UTCWhen I was younger I had some traumatic experiences involving the invasion of my privacy by a parent. I empathize with Carly, I understand what it feels like to have your life turned upside down by clumsy parental discipline… but I never got close to killing to anyone over it.

2024-11-04 23:43:37 +0000 UTCThank you Dave! "Lovely" video as always. I feel like this is a case one could talk many many many hours about over a drink or two. I think basicly every action, reaction, expression can be analysed to oblivion. Who knows, there might be such an occasion sometimes. :) Cheers!

2024-11-04 16:51:37 +0000 UTCI think you might be right, but it is difficult to pinpoint where the sound is coming from and what's it saying. The power of suggestion is pretty strong in cases like this, the more you listen, the more you'll hear....but...you might be right....

2024-11-04 16:49:02 +0000 UTCI hope you don’t mind my post-video thoughts. These questions are why we’re both here right? To me, Carly has, with the simplest terms, early-onset homicidal tendencies. She was not a rash teenager, but calculated and yeah, logical. It reminds me of Ed Kemper, he killed his grandparents at 15, was released, and killed 8 more as an adult. And also Paris Bennett, which its own complex case. Where I struggle is to hold a 14 year old responsible for having developed a mental illness from a very young age. I think the severity of her case in conjunction with her age should be enough to receive not guilty by reason of insanity imo. Her mental state was beyond her control, not simply because she is not an adult, but because of how little time she had to develop before her mental illness became severe. I’m unconvinced by it having anything to do her drug use, and I think her mom finding out was only a triggering event. If anything, marijuana use may have escalated her pre-existing mental illness but violence was inevitable for Carly. The ideal place for Carly is a mental institution, but I think Mississippi is not prepared for a case like Carly’s. FWOP still doesn’t feel right, a mentally ill child deserves better. This one really got me thinking, thanks for your work.

2024-11-04 03:54:18 +0000 UTCI thought people were talking conspiracy but it's there. Totally terrible and sad. Let me know what you think once you check it out! It adds another layer to the whole situation.

2024-11-04 02:16:36 +0000 UTCNo way!? I did not pickup on that at all! I can't believe you can hear her mom asking for help. I'm going over the footage now to see if I can hear it

2024-11-04 02:09:37 +0000 UTCI watched the Carly Gregg trial live, and I found your presentation of the information really thought-provoking and easy to digest. One detail I noticed that wasn’t mentioned was the moment in the security footage when Carly sang a hymn. Her mom says, 'help me,' and Carly’s hymn was a series of 'no's in different octaves. I only picked up on it after seeing some discussions on Reddit, but I thought it was a very interesting moment!

2024-11-04 00:42:39 +0000 UTCRE inner monologue. If I say “red balloon” some people see a red balloon and some people see the letters “red balloon”. I see a image of a red balloon but I do know people that see letters “red balloon”. I can also hear “red balloon” but I know people that don’t hear anything (and that’s wild to me). If someone never learns to read, I have no idea what would pop in their minds.

2024-11-03 21:58:31 +0000 UTCThanks for watching, Nob! Some people definitely have evil dwelling within them. It's always so confronting to see it manifest within a minor. The insanity defence is something that I think needs a lot of work in the court systems. For example, if someone chooses to plea insanity, I really think more has to be done by experts who are not appointed by either side, to verify how legitimate this defence is. Currently, in this case, it looked like all experts spent a maximum of 4 hours each interviewing her. That's not good enough in my eyes. But I do understand their time is money, big money...

2024-11-03 21:58:20 +0000 UTCI'm with you as well Marie. As I said in the video, it's quite a complicated debate that I have within myself on this topic. I see both sides of the argument, but ultimately, do land closer on the side that minors should'nt ever be tried as adults. I would argue that for sure they should get some serious prison time, but along with that extreme psychiatric care and therapy to understand what happened and to help them understand, rehab and hopefully be productive at some point in their life. In saying that though, it was hard for me on this one, simply due to the psychologist pointing out narcissitic and psychopathic traits. I know those things don't equal an evil person, and that individual could manage those traits to become a good person, but man, it's difficult for me to feel too much sympathy for someone like Carly with what she did.

2024-11-03 21:55:25 +0000 UTCAgreed. The silence of the entire thing following the gun shots was something that I found to be quite haunting.

2024-11-03 21:52:35 +0000 UTCWhat's that? An AK right next to the bed? No worries, but my gosh, have you heard, there's not enough dog food in the house to feed the dogs comfortably for the next week.

2024-11-03 21:52:18 +0000 UTCI'm with you on this take. I think that she has some serious issues with criminal and psychopathic behaviour.

2024-11-03 21:51:38 +0000 UTCI noticed that as well, what I landed on was... SHE'S CRAZY!! Look, her hair isn't even washed, what sort of insanity is this. NOT GUILTY!!

2024-11-03 21:51:12 +0000 UTCIrrelevant observation, but why on earth would a 14 year old girl NOT WASH HER HAIR BEFORE COURT?
Stephanie Gulick
2024-11-03 17:25:39 +0000 UTCI won’t go so far as calling her evil. Carly has issues, including poor mental health but this girl appears straight up criminal. Acute dissociative reaction my ass. She wanted to shoot her mother and invite friends to view her mother’s dead body. It ain’t crazy. It’s impulsive and criminal.
Stephanie Gulick
2024-11-03 17:11:21 +0000 UTCAmerican gun culture. It really does saturate everything here. If you had drugs in the house with children, people would raise an eyebrow more quickly than a gun. It's really frustrating

2024-11-03 14:18:36 +0000 UTCThere's something so unsettling about that scene, with the Retrievers scampering around. I'm not sure what punishment is appropriate for a 14-year old attempted family annihilator, but there is no doubt she is a threat to society.

2024-11-03 13:59:20 +0000 UTCBefore watching the full videos I typically will read a short brief of the case, so that I know where we’re going and what to pay attention to. My initial thoughts are that any case, no matter the crime, where someone is sentenced to LWOP for a crime committed at age 14 is cruel. But knowing the state of justice in a state like Mississippi, I am not surprised. They seem fully convinced of some fantastical “evil” in someone who is not yet fully developed. All to say, I doubt the trial will be able to convince me this isn’t a miscarriage of justice. I seem to be in the minority somehow. Thanks for bringing this one to my attention, going to be a wild one.
Marie
2024-11-03 06:31:02 +0000 UTCThe problem i have with this case. Is the whole "she must be insane bc who would do this" why is insanity used to explain away awful actions. Can't we just say some people are pure evil? They certainly exist. it's hard to grasp, but unlike me and (hopefully whoever reads this) some people will see an option or contemplate a decision they know is awful. Then, in their right mind fully mentally healthy. They will still choose to do that awful thing. No reharehabilitation, or mental treatment will fix these people. *sigh what a tangent. Great video dave really enjoyed it😁
