Weekly Message #6 - First Review Code!

I finished Rise of the Tomb Raider in the middle of the week. Good game. Not great, but enjoyable. I've written the script and I'm in the early stages of recording the audio. 

Tweaking it to avoid clipping was more work than I expected so I'm behind schedule. The recording sounds a lot lower on my headset but was really good on speakers. I'm concerned that the final video will be too quiet and I might have to record the whole thing all over again. So apologies for that in advance if it happens. I'll take the video down quickly and redo it if that's the case.

I received a review code for a game for the first time. From an indie developer--really cool for that to happen. I was already planning on doing a video on the game funnily enough (I played it already), but the advanced version was for its steam early access release. I'll be doing a short video on that this month. My original time for that was March but now I can get it done early.

Dragon's Dogma comes first, however. Or at least completing one playthrough does if the game is as big as people say. I'm not enjoying this game. I just tweeted about it. I'm not sure if it's meant to be a grindy RPG or a skill-based one like Dark Souls, so I'm hitting some potentially avoidable moments of frustration with damage sponge enemies. It feels like Skyrim and Dark Souls had a baby, and that baby has both the good and the bad for both games. That's probably a good hook to use while writing about it later.

The video on Rise of the Tomb Raider will be a critique, not a review, since it's technically been out for months. I make some heavy suggestions about gameplay and the story at the end that I hope are respectful. I don't want to come across as an armchair game designer--it's a tricky line to walk on.
