To help prevent my heart from caving in, I decided to go a walk around Marine Drive before meeting up with a couple of pals. When I got to Nick, we ended up doing a second lap.
I’ve done this walk a million times, but have barely ever taken pictures there with street photography in mind. So there’s a few candids of kids just doing their thing, along with my usual interests of relatively minimal scenes featuring no one.
The tide was coming in, and the sea was getting pretty choppy. A couple of kids sat on the sea defence wall caught my eye. They’d arrived on their bikes and climbed up to watch the sea. Me and Nick went down to the steps that would lead to the beach, to photograph the waves. The kids jumped down, and were seeing how close they could get without being caught by the waves. Obviously that’s a terribly unsafe thing to do, but who doesn’t do that as kids? At least they were having a nice time and not being dicks. And anyway, it made for good photos!
I think the Marine Drive offers an alternative perspective to the town beyond the more obvious sandy beach photos! I’m gonna make an effort to revisit it each time I come back over the summer months.
The last photo is of my pal Nick, he’s lowering a microphone into the sea to record the sound of the waves from beneath the surface. It sounds real fucking cool.
I lent over the railing to get a photo of the sea colliding with the wall, but this led to my M11 getting completely drenched by a wave, and I got a proper mouthful of the sea water. Still works, though. Will I learn? Nope.
