Creator Commentary: The Coldest Case Ever Solved [+ Update]

Another Creator Commentary to tie you over!

FULL UPDATE @ 59:39

Next project is on the Darlie Routier case, which has been often-requested, so hopefully some of you are excited about that! It’s definitely one with a billion arguments and pieces of evidence involved so it’s been a grind figuring out. I’m definitely getting there though. Script’s been written to the point it would normally be over halfway finished, but depending on what I decide has to go in it might only be a third way finished.

I’ll definitely post another update toward the end of April letting you know if it’s close or still some time away, but even if it is still some time away at that point the upside will be you’ll get a really big video! It’ll be a decent size in any event for sure.

The other update is the WM3 addendum video I was teasing briefly a while ago can’t really be given a release date window. It will happen, but when just depends on when I get extra time between projects.

Thanks so much as always for your patience and support! If you have any questions , just drop ‘em below 🙂

Creator Commentary: The Coldest Case Ever Solved [+ Update]

Comments

I rewatch this video + commentary every so often - I have teenage stepsisters watching the worst of true crime content and I recommended this video to them in hopes it teaches them to second guess the things they're told. Phenomenal work.

Virginia

So what is your opinion on the West Memphis 3? With all the facts and knowledge and transcripts presented?

Julz XD

It’s always funny to me how entitled people feel to high quality YouTube content.

caleb repko

I'm super late but I wanted to comment about the math equation. I had ALWAYS heard 2+3-2 and I also thought his answer was hilariously wrong. On closer inspection I do think she says 3+3-2, but the intonation on that first t is very sharp and it feels different enough from the following 3 that it sounds like a 2.

Tearque Syrene

No plans, but possibly. I did a little research on Jones while writing cults. From memory the reason that didn't make the cut as a case study was a combination of not fitting in to the narrative arc and it having enough going on to be worthy of it's own video. I guess you could say the same for Scientology, Heaven's Gate and NEXIVM (or however you spell that stupid thing) but I don't really find them interesting enough past the bullet points.

Matt Orchard

You should consider doing another cult video but focusing more on the people’s temple. There is hours of audio of Jim jones speaking that spans years and a lot of it is fascinating

David Garner

I’ve said it elsewhere, when you consider the medium, the climate we’re in, and the overarching “lesson” of this video, for me it’s true crime “essential” viewing and a top 100 YouTube video. The presumption of innocence is so fundamental to equal justice under the law and yet thanks to the likes of Nancy grace, that presumption is all but disappeared. This video reveals the bias in all of us if we don’t apply our own independent and rigorous analysis, and we just assume the creator of video x or y is giving us all the necessary information

Ross Bonander

FAV: 1. JonBenet 2. People Try to Pet Tigers Sometimes 3. Possibly the latest Darlie video LEAST FAV: 1. Anthony Palma (shit) 2. Basil Borutski (nothing special) 3. Johnny and Amber (Not really bad, just a bit of a drag imo)

Matt Orchard

I'd actually really like to see you rank all of your videos from favorite to least favorite and why in a future video.

Jur Neal

I am now a member my saltiest of salmon! Much love to those who are polite and my springtail cultures as well. May we all have a good Christmas this year and remember not to trust those who pet tigers. I now go to cook some french fries.

Gizmo

Thanks Brian!

Matt, your warm approach (the antithesis to AI and JCS) is what compelled me to subscribe. All the same intriguing details, without the white coat sterility of a talking head style script. It's like we're in a pub and you are quite adept at going off script to throw color or shade, or triangulate the narrative in all the right places.

Brian Grim

Both are maybes - OJ would probably be one of those "commit to three months of production" ones as there's so much trial footage. I was fascinated with the Bundy case as a teenager so I've got a lot of thoughts to draw from. Not quite sure what the overall angle would be, but I've got stray ideas.

Yr the man Matt thanks as always. Hey speaking of ok, why not a classic case like that or Bundy?! To this day JBR vids my favorite! I'd love your take on one of these classic shit birds.

p j

Oh, I KNOW! I was JUST complaining to my friend about that stupid voice & regurgitated content. I thought it was just me!

YESwayTED 024

Yeah F try em if they can’t take a joke! Been a massive fan for years and only joined Patreon 2 months ago.

Cronker Waltite

It’s not the silly string that gets me… it’s the metal screen fibers on a separate knife in their kitchen block that had me believing this was her doing.

Cronker Waltite

Also, I find it interesting that so many people were so up and arms about the Patreon intro, when I myself was not a patron at the time and I didn’t think anything more of the joke you made other than that it was…a joke

Emily Tupper

I have been dying for you to do the Darlie case! I am very excited that video!

Emily Tupper

I keep the video volume at -25-30db while I'm talking, is that it? Let me know if it's not and you have a time stamp :)

Matt Orchard

There's some sort of background conversation going on while you're talking, is that a glitch or intentional

Michelle M

Darlie's case is maddening. I'm sure you'll find something unique to touch on in the case. People treat her like the Ramsey's, simultaneously stupid and an evil genius depending on what works in the moment.

Patrick Murphy

I think that's basically it. Some people actually enjoy being upset. It's not even that I wouldn't be offended by that opening remark. It literally would not occur to me that there was even something to potentially be offended by. I've gotta assume 99.5+ % of people are the same.

Matt Orchard

Unfortunately I can't go into much detail of the case without giving away my take. It wasn't a daytime attack though. Very early morning hours - AM nighttime. How Darin would have slept through everything up until the glass break and Darlie's scream though is for anyone to speculate on. Ultimately all anyone can ever have is the word of the two adults in that house and the available evidence to put that up against.

Matt Orchard

I've stopped being surprised by the ability of some people to take everything they hear in the most cynical, least charitable way. They're on the look out for people potentially giving them grief, so they find it very very often.

corvdb1992 .

You joke about your over-pronunciation in these older videos, but they’re a staple of what makes your channel so unique in my opinion. Thanks for doing these reflective commentaries, always stop what I’m listening to to listen whenever they drop 👌👌

Stephen Hoyle

I heard 3+2-3 the first time I listened to this version, but then after hearing you say 3+3-2 that's what I hear now. I think it's one of those things where the audio quality is bad enough that your brain might just fill in the gaps poorly sometimes 🤷‍♂️

Shane King

Looking forward to hearing your take on Darlie Routier!

Elisabeth Villoutreix

You tease! 😉 I have to say this. Sorry so lengthy! I hate (love) Darlie’s case. I’ve been leaning towards not guilty, if for nothing more than to prove that one detective wrong (u know the one) & her grief/struggle seems so genuine. However, I have been extremely curious about a couple areas that give me pause: 1. how did the lovin’ hubby sleep through a daytime attack eliciting the high pitched screams of multiple young children (we all know that ‘wrong’ scream of a little one in trouble, too - it’s unmistakable & LOUD) 2. I am incapable of conjuring a reasonable motive for her to do this. (Reasonable; not, rational.) [3. Bet you thought I was gonna say: “but the silly string incident proves it, right?”(Nah… I’ve been around the block on this one.) haha] I am hoping you will address these two points and cannot wait to learn what you have discovered! Thank you for making it a great day!

YESwayTED 024

True crime youtube is filled with copy-paste AI voiced bullshit.

lefoto131

What’s this now??

YESwayTED 024

lets gooooooo

Joel Dellavalle

Can't wait!! You're so underrated. It's irritating that true crime AI slop is getting more views than you.
