Just finished building a new mocap PC!

After my girlfriend recorded a bunch of audio for our next scene, I processed several clips with voice converter, and it took many HOURS to complete. Basically an entire day of work. That was the final straw. It's time to replace my old potato of a PC. This will be a massive upgrade for my productivity. Faster load times, faster render times, faster processing, this is going to help me get scenes done quicker. I'm also crossing my fingers that this allows for more consistency while recording mocaps, with less lags and pauses. The PC is all put together and configured, now it just needs Windows installed on it.

Some of you might wonder if this will affect how heavy future scenes are. After all, my old PC has always compelled me to make very efficient scenes, ones that I could actually play in VR myself. I think I will be making our scenes more heavy than they were before, with more lights and effects, but my plan is to continue making them customizable, and add a UI button that will auto-configure it for slower computers. I think this will be a good middle ground. I also plan to test all scenes on my old PC first before releasing, so I can be sure to see how well it works on an older machine.

In a few days I'll give you guys the latest updates:
-How Cyberpunk Couch Ride is coming along
-An estimate on when our new tiers are being released
-What other scenes I'm working on this month
Thanks everyone! :)

In case any of you are wondering, here's the specs:
New PC:
CPU: Ryzen 9 7900X, GPU: RTX 4070 Super, RAM: 64GB DDR5 6000 MHz, Chipset: X670E, OS Drive: 2TB Gen4 NVME

Old PC:
CPU: Ryzen 7 2700, GPU: GTX 1080 TI, RAM: 32GB DDR4 2400 MHz, Chipset: X370, OS Drive: 512GB M.2 Sata

Just got a good deal on an i9 14900F / 4080 Super I couldn’t resist :)

Wow, and it runs VaM? XD I hope you get an opportunity to upgrade! :)

Very nice , enjoy the new rig :) I'm eyeing some nice sales and might pull the trigger myself soon. You know what I run on now ? An i5-9400 and a 1660ti :)

Not sure if you've actually tested it but... it wont be the boost you think, but still awesome to have a new PC. That is a particularly nice upgrade you have. No high end specs will save load times from the bad programming. Render time is irrelevant because these are scenes, unless you are referring to stripping the mocap data but that shouldn't take long even with a potato. AI is offloaded to a server to process so no impact here. Now, putting that aside are we actually going to see more content released at an increased frequency or are we going to still see 1 project and maybe 1 rehash of an older project every month? Your content is higher quality than many others, though it lacks variety and lighting is typically poor. However, variety issue aside you release so rarely its a real bummer. It would take you multiple years to match most other content releases that are doing mocap, especially the big names. Are we seeing any improvement here?

The 64GB helped me a lot in VAM, no crashes anymore.

The 4000 series benchmarks pretty high, actually. The 4070 Super even outperforms the 3090 TI, at half the TDP. :O https://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

Is it worth upgrading from a 3000 to a 4000 series? from what I've read the performance is basically the same, it's just way better at power management (which might be a good thing, because my 3080 runs hot as hell)

Diligent

Thanks! Yea, I had to limit my budget to no more than $2000, so this is a pretty amazing PC at that price. I added a 2TB SATA SSD as well for some inexpensive storage, and I left my NVME 5.0 port open, so I can expand in the future. :)

Oh interesting, I had not really thought about the X3D's cache size. Mostly I considered the single-core performance for physics sim, and also cost; the 7900X had it beat in both categories. But yea, I seriously would have considered the X3D if I had thought about how much cache could affect performance as well. But no worries, I'm sure this will still give me lots of VaM power! :)

Looking sleek! Very nice upgrade, and pretty high-end but not breaking the bank, which is good. Excited to see what will happen in future scenes! I'm sure you'll want to upgrade the Storage at some point; 2TB fills up pretty quickly.

Hell of an upgrade. I'm impressed you were able to play VR VAM on the old rig. Some of your scenes take some tweaking to run well even on my 5600x and rtx4080. I am surprised you went with the 7900x, and not the x3d. My impression is that VAM is one of the games that sees a huge improvement with the x3d architecture. Regardless, that should be a much better experience for you now!

Shadar

Wow! That's intense! That's got to have a beefy PSU!

CuddleMocap

Will do! If nothing else, I'll spend an extra hour or so making a button in the beginning UI that says "Performance Mode" so you can click on it and have everything switch to simpler lighting and assets. :)

CuddleMocap

Can you believe I play VaM in VR with that rig? I've gotten pretty good at tweaking stuff to keep the FPS above the 45 Hz mark. XD

CuddleMocap

Thank you!

CuddleMocap

So i upgraded mine, 128gb ram, i9-12900k, i have a 3080 in slot 1 and a 3090 in slot 0, slot 0 is default for ai type stuff and slot 1 has my displays attached to it, asus rog Strix Z790-F and a wd black 4tb nvme and 3 990 samsungs 2 tb nvme's there may be a few ssd's in there aswell. Its liquid cooled.. i sorta went overkill on my rig.

My computer has an intel CPU but all the rest is pretty close to your old PC. Please keep your old PC to test out a new scene on so you can know it will work on older machines. Thank You for all your work. Please keep the new tiers easy on us poor folk 😉

MSpeck01

Owow, I thought my rig is a potato (Zen 7 5800x, Ry 5800xt. 64GbDDR4@3600) - but your old PC ... I retired MY Zen 7 2700x over two years ago ... That being said: Please don't forget that many of us cannot afford the kind of PC you own now. So far, you've been very, very good at creating scenes that run well even on mid-class gear. I hope you'll continue to do that! EDIT: Should have read the whole post before replying! ;)

CaseEP

If you were making such masterpieces with an outdated PC, I cannot wait to see what you’ll achieve with your new stuff. Congrats and keep it up!!

Frankibz

Whoa, nice!! My budget wasn't quite high enough to get those specs, haha! But this is still gonna be a pretty sweet setup! XD

CuddleMocap

Congrats! Good for you and your works in the future -- love from 7950x+rtx4090(bought those hardwares just for the best performance of your mocaps❤)

EZsurvivor

Aw yeah! Sounds like a great upgrade. Looking forward what you can make out of it. :- )
