Regarding slender fingers, I'm guessing its origins are around the Victorian novel, where long, slender fingers (a phrase which, having heard it so much, is now making me deeply uncomfortable) are meant to evoke a refined, polished individual-- an artist (visual or musical) or a member of the aristocracy, comparing such delicate digits to the thick, calloused hands of the working class. Wherever it's from it's seeped into cliche. It's shorthand (funnily enough) for elegance and grace and easily thrown in to remind the audience as such. It's the kind of phrase you would normally skip over because it's so ubiquitous until somebody manages to mishandle it as a descriptor so badly you can never unsee it. Good work, Cline.
