The Bibites 0.6 Alpha 13: No more constants
Added 2024-05-16 22:07:36 +0000 UTC
Brain Changes
Added default activations to brain nodes, replacing the constant node
Added indicator for default activation
Added default activation mutations and adjusted respective probabilities
Added Integrator Activation Function (integrate input over time)
Added inhibitor Activation function (self-inhibits, and gradually returns to 0)
Brain Updater will take care of converting any old connections to default activation
Inhibitory Node is the only one being initialized with a non-zero base activation
Integrator node can't have default activation
Default activation on a differential node will produce a proportional spike on the first brain update
Default activation on an inhibitory node scales the self-inhibiting factor (lower default activation means a longer time to self-inhibe and return to 0, higher value means faster return to 0)
Improvements to hidden nodes placement in brain panels
Connections should now initially have a strength closer to zero (normal distribution with SD of 0.5) when first created.
Balanced default brain mutations probabilities
Other Changes
Updated some sprites
Changes to default Radioactivity settings
Disabled live birth
Fixes
Fixed bug that would display species distribution approximation even with old sims
Fixed mutation bug
Fixed some fixed sum settings not being loaded properly
Fixed bugs in rendering inputless outputs
Comments
I'm getting an issue on A13 where the game crashes, then when I try to load the latest autosave, I get this: https://imgur.com/a/6afp99M But if I go back a few autosaves it loads!

2024-05-17 08:54:21 +0000 UTCHi, I've downloaded & run 0.6a13 Windows x64, and the gui says it's version 0.6a10. I compared the directories and a13 differs slightly to a10 so I thought it could just be a mis-labelling. Is the "constant" brain node supposed to disappear in bibite brains? It still exists on my bibite brains so I'm not sure if I've got the correct version.
