2021-05-10 15:20:15 +0000 UTCAs someone who enjoyed Interspecies Reviewers, the Monster Mates podcast does a TERRIBLE job attempting to rip it off (hoohoo). The ultimate difference/problem is the podcast lacks any actual intended humor. The show despite being very sexual in nature mostly uses it's setting to setup jokes that happen to be dirty and occasionally there's some TnA. This podcast takes all the fun right out and replaces it with desperation. I'm so torn if I want more of a deep dive because I love when Karl and the crew find something in my wheelhouse and take the piss out of it, but at the same time the guys who do the show are so unfunny and do such a terrible job representing the source material they are horribly stealing from.

Also the issue with digi and "victimless crime of anime child porn" is that people find it gross you associate with a guy who gets off to children, drawn or not. The stick figure analogy sucks because some artists out there are great and make stuff look like actual children and its gross you associate with a man who jerks off to that.

I haven't listened to Nerdist in years but I had to stop listening because the owner of the venue where Hardwick would do the show was always on the couch, roaring away at everything that was said.
