This Yoruichi model is the first of the 2nd generation of Radix models.
Generation 1 vs Generation 2
Performance
One major goal I set for myself for this new generation of models was to improve their performance in terms of render time and and reducing how often they cause Blender to crash.
The main driver of performance issues was the hair. Originally, I was using Hair Cards for my models. And while I believe the hair for my models looked very nice, one big drawback was the necessity to dial up the Transparent Light Paths to 24 - 64 bounces to combat issues that arose from overlapping transparent faces.
My Generation 2 models now use Polygon Hair, which doesn't require any transparency. This significantly boosts render speeds.
Faster Character Creation Workflow
Hair creation has always been most time consuming part of modeling new characters for me.
Once I get used to this new process, I should be able to release new character models more frequently than I have in the past.
Slightly More Stylized Models
I've always liked that my models are a mix between photoreal and stylized, but I always felt that for anime characters, they may have leaned a bit too much towards photorealism.
But I also feel that the "Overwatch Style" of characters was a bit too far on the other end of the spectrum.
These new Generation 2 models should be somewhat at a halfway point between my old Generation 1 models and the "Overwatch Style" of character models.
As this is a Beta model, it's still subject to change. If you encounter any issues or have any suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
I also intend to update my old models to the new Generation 2 style over time, but I will still be adding new characters to the roster at the same time.
