Unskilled Mechanic Changing Snow Tyres

The technically-correct rotation is in an X, next swap every tire goes to the far opposite corner. The only thing to be aware with that though is if you have directional tires, in which case if on rims they can only be moved front to back, as left to right would cause them to be installed backwards. Both sets of Ed's tires look to be non-directional though, so he would be okay with either method.

I have an old swivel office chair on casters that had the back broken off it. Use it in the workshop all the time. Very civilised!

All Righty Takin’ care of the family horses. Another fab episode in the life and times of the unskilled pit crew. Temps at 15 degrees constant time to swap over for me. Cutie tyres on that one, lift them with your toes. I use a seat with swivel casters. Make an episode for the pit crew. Add a square of plywood with 4 casters To hold tools and bolts. I’m still changing my tires on the little Scion XB & I just turned 75……. But I need a nap after that workout. Good on Ya’. Takin’ care of business Working overtime Cheers Jerry

Oh, there's a little more to it than straight front-to-back swap. It's a literal "rotation" around the car. I would have to consult the guide, again. But it's worth a look.

Makes sense to me, Ash

Thanks, Brian. I am thinking, next change, I will move the fronts to the back and visa versa.

Unsolicited opinion #1. Skill level: Montreal winter driver. Firstly, best thing you could have done is buy a set of extra rims to have your tires on. I still kick myself for not having done it at the outset. Next car I buy, I will. Presently, I have to have the garage do it for me. Very frustrating, and expensive. Secondly (here it comes), SURE you have to rotate those tires! The slightest misalignment in the steering will cause uneven wear. Plenty of diagrams to show the proper rotation to keep those tires evenly worn, and usable for a few years.

If the car is a 2 wheel drive, I will put the fronts on the back and vice versa the next time they go back on. Seems to make sense that the two drive wheels would get used more in a front wheel drive, but that's just me.
