Thanks zcly. When we first bought the place, the wife's family would not come closer than the driveway and the wife would only come in with overalls, gloves and mask. Now, it is their favorite BBQ location. :-D As long as you guys keep supporting the channel, we will keep it going. We always have a back up plan, if any company (include Youtube) let's us down. For example: https://www.dailymotion.com/thejapanchannel Thanks again!

Went and watched every single renovation project at the old farm house (this one included), listed on the "Buying a house in Japan" playlist, since I hadn't seen them all - especially the oldest stuff. I'm seriously shocked.
The state the house was in more than 10 years ago... disgusting! All that trash, dust, rust and gunk! Would be enough to scare an average person away! Well, enough to scare me at least. After going through the humdrum process of buying that place, I would've just left that house there and run for the hills... never to return.
But you guys - the absolute mad lads - bought it, and actually took the effort to clean and renovate it! The difference compared to today is massive! According to the unskilled laborer, you had to haul 3 tons of garbage out of there, which was readjusted to 10 tons in a later video! 2 adult elephants can weigh that much! There had to be a lot of convincing involved from the younger old guy to make a certain partner move into the house with him...
More than anything else, that playlist has given me perspective. Perspective to understand the determination and dedication of the family living there. The old guy seems very happy to do these jobs, even if he is probably doing them all alone. It almost feels like a deep passion or something. I may not understand anything from this type of labor, but I understand how important passion and enthusiasm are for human beings. It can be said that those are the corner stones for human life to strive further and further, creating new innovations and technologies.
Lots of things have changed. Some projects have been more insufferable than others, but most of them have been completed successfully. All the videos over the years, along with this playlist, have made me realize, how much work has gone into the channel. Considering it was only around mid 2016 that you guys started accepting money for all of this... It is a level of selflessness that isn't seen often, particularly on the internet.
In a previous renovation video, I commented how incredible it was to me, how skilled the "unskilled laborer" is. Now I understand all of it. All the experiences through failure and success (failure especially), the sudden backlashes, and the dealings with the cultural bureaucracy among other hardships. Went through all of it, and gained new knowledge from it. Excellent patience and commitment, without a dent in the silly old dude smile. Actually, the smile probably got wider as things got desperate. It's never mentioned in the videos, but it must've been hard on the big dude at times - even if he is such an amazing bloke.
I have nothing but mad respect for this channel, because you guys really "get" it. You can't be bought: you won't act against your principles. You can think for yourselves: You don't succumb to trends or social pressure. But perhaps most importantly; you won't portray an untruthful image of yourselves, which is massively popular on social media, namely on YouTube. You are yourselves, showing what life is in Japan. As real as it is. The success, the humiliation, life, death, festivals, catastrophies... even the fat ass. All authentic and very real.
I personally enjoy when things get finished. There is nothing more satisfying than getting closure and then pondering about it afterwards. This is also why I never watch those endless drama series from the TV, because when something "allegedly" ends, there's always more stupid drama cooking up elsewhere - keeping the wheels of drama turning forevermore.
I was kind of expecting to see the ending of these projects at the farm house eventually, but I have come to understand that the old house is breaking down forever :D. Hence, more maintenance and renovations!
Not that I mind. I found my closure after the 1,5 year mark, when most of the important renovations were finished. At that point, the place didn't look like a junk yard anymore. I also quite enjoy the videos, so I'll keep watching them when I find time.
Obviously, the channel is going to come to an end at some point as well. I hope it's far, far away into the future, but I am also ready to accept it, when the time comes. Thanks to us Patrons, the content can actually still keep on going, as has been mentioned in previous videos. I guess I have only realized that just now. YouTube itself is keen on killing any and all smaller channels, so it's not hard to believe.
If my small commitment is enough to give the big guy and his family peace of mind and commitment of their own, then there is no better place for my allowance to go, than to this channel. Thank you, and a slightly more pleasant unpleasant rest of the year. Just remember to take it easy, as rest plays an important role in recovery of physical and mental energy. I'll try to remember that too!
