The Flesh of the World vocal FX rack (ableton)
Added 2023-05-15 15:00:02 +0000 UTCHere is the clean vocal effects rack I used on that release. It's designed for a ribbon mic (specifically the SEX1r) but could be useful for others as a good starting point to unpack for clear clean vocals. Contains:
-hi pass to get rid of low-end mud
-noise gate to remove ...unwanted noise
-de-esser (the multiband filter) to remove sibilence
-saturator to add hi-frequency "air"
-optional "telephone" effect, used in God, Unbounded
-EQ and more multibands for tone
-the exact reverb settings used
Go wild with it, if you are new to mixing vocals can be a good reference or preset.

If you are not aware, ribbon mics are very 'dark' mics with minimal treble, so if the above seems way too trebley adjust the eq and multiband accordingly. However, using a ribbon and boosting the treble can have very good results as it still picks up the signal, albeit at a much lower sensitivity, and often the post-booseted treble has a very velvety texture (depending on the mic, it seemed to with the SEX1r). Keep in mind if you plan on using a ribbon mic, DO NOT ACCIDENTALLY LEAVE ON OR TURN ON PHANTOM YOU WILL KILL IT! so far managed to avoid doing that to myself.
