Gay animals can adopt orphans and raise them, they can help rear the young so that they survive, and they can contribute to the group they belong to to keep overall group health up. in solitary species there isnt a clear cut benefit to strict homosexuality to my knowledge, but as you guys mentioned its such a "minor mutation" that it is completely relevant to any given species provided the reproduction rate is above the death rate. alsp i remember hearing that nature is more bisexual than strictly one or the other, so if thats true it might literally be a form of evolution in favoring certain traits regardless of sex/gender (ie males wanting more "male like" partners be they male or female and vice verse). also sex feels good and animals like to feel go so 😉
