Cowboy Bebop Episode 26 Reaction

suing everyone for false advertising and emotional damage 🖤

Cowboy Bebop Episode 26 Reaction

Comments

Agreed. I haven't seen this series for over 2 decades, but it always stuck with me as one of my favorite animes. Watching it now with the girls again, it felt like the show was an anthology. Like you could tune in to any episode late at night on television and just have fun watching. The serious story beats feel rush in. Like they had to end it somehow so they added an overarching story to lead from the fun cowboy in space adventures. I think a few more episodes about Vicious and Julia would have done the emotional punch a lot better. Still a great series though.

They will watch the Cowboy Bebop movie and after that they usually post a poll for short animes shows.

There's a million little easter egg things I can point out now but the first one that comes to mind is in episode 3. Spike walks past a large movie screen with subtitles that says "only a samurai can kill him like that". Lola even noticed it and commented on it asking if it was foreshadowing lol

YawnSong

Spy x Family has currently 37 episodes and 1 movie. Also Season 3 with another 12 episodes is really close. It's only watchable in the Long Anime Slot, maybe after Monster. 😅

You’re gonna carry that weight.

If you guys want something to heal your hearts after this, watch Spy Family :)

milena wishing for the soprano-coded ending was cute (13:25), upon consideration that would fit the story quite well

What a great show, definitely way ahead of its time. Characters who lived together, spent their daily lives goofing off with one another. Only for them to go their separate ways in a very realistic manner, it’s painful yet beautiful.

Frieren The Hamburger Slayer

Whenever they compared Bebop to Frieren, I thought that the stories are sort of opposing reflections of a similar theme. Frieren is all about her coming to terms with her past and relating it to her present so she can move forward. Bebop is about characters that can't quite move forward. The past weighs heavily and the present feels meaningless and ill-defined. Just moving from one moment to the next. Ultimately, one is more optimistic than the other. I suspect they felt that connection and it tripped them up into thinking Bebop would be happier. But watching it again you can see the throughline. Spike never valued his own life. There is meaning in the present, the crew just struggle to see it. I loved rewatching the show for these reactions. While it is sad I think it does lead you to appreciate things in a similar manner to Frieren. I think the movie will feel good too, getting one last story with everyone.

Not to make matters worse but I did want to point out that in the previous episode when Vicious is being restrained by the Syndicate and they were about to kill him, there were two other pairs of shackles on each side of him, one for Spike and one for Julia. With us also knowing how interwoven all three of them were with each other, the show was showing us that all of their fates are tied to each other, so when Julia died, you just knew that Vicious and Spike were going to die as well.

What worries me at the moment is that the voice actress for Frieren (Atsumi Tanezaki) has fallen seriously ill. I'm not sure if she'll be able to voice Frieren again. And for Lola & Milena: The trailer is completely spoiler-free. I'm also completely unsure how you can spoil Frieren.

Now imagine experiencing this ending as as 13 year old. But what I really wanted to talk about is that all the words in the background of the opening is something the composer of the show wrote. The full text is: "Once upon a time, in New York City in 1941... at this club open to all comers to play, night after night, at a club named "Minston's Play House" in Harlem, they play jazz sessions competing with each other. Young jazz men with a new sense are gathering. At last they created a new genre itself. They are sick and tired of the conventional fixed style jazz. They're eager to play jazz more freely as they wish then... in 2071 in the universe... The bounty hunters, who are gathering in the spaceship "BEBOP", will play freely without fear of risky things. They must create new dreams and films by breaking traditional styles. The work, which becomes a new genre itself, will be called... COWBOY BEBOP"

Just need to post this here for us to heal https://youtu.be/n6HZo_33YaQ?si=rMHPFwyvbgdTaSIS

My Toasty Toast

I once read a youtube comment that said something along the lines of "Cowboy Bebop is the epilogue of a story we never get to see", and it stuck with me. These characters already had their arcs, they already had their character growth. It's not really about how much they develop but rather how they cope with a past that already changed them irreversibly. That's why in this the only thing Spike can hope for is closure, even if it means certain death, because he is not hopeful for the future, he's always stuck in the past. It's quite a heavy and tragic subtext and theme for an otherwise upbeat and even comical series.

I just watched the reaction and review of episode 9 of Monster, and one thing I guarantee: you are not ready for how good it still gets. Now I'm going to watch Cowboy Bebop, for me a very tragic but also very beautiful ending. Thank you for the double update and for the fun journey it was to see you watching this incredible anime!!

Bernardo

Thank you for watching my favorite show. I know y’all have a million shows to watch but I think bebop only gets better on rewatch. I hope y’all come back to it again soon. Truly grateful to witness yall experience it ❤️

14 year old me when faye cries as spike leaves broke my heart...14 year old me when spike falls to the ground and the music kicks off the final credits...i was in shock. speechless. and contemplating my existence.

michata_

Do we know what anime comes next?

Who knows

Thank you so much for this journey. I would not have watched it if it were not for you girls reacting to it <3

Who knows

What do you mean false advertising? Who told you this was a happy story lol

Jack Hoff

Thank you for sharing this journey with us, so glad you both loved it! It's one of the greats for a reason, such a bittersweet and beautiful ending

Trust me, you'll be happy that you watched the movie last. It was made after the show and you can feel that in the text of the movie.

James Long

I love the structure of this show. Every character had background episodes. Jet, Faye, and Ed got 2-3, and Spike got 5. Spike's 5 episodes formed the spine of this show. It was the show's "plot". But the show was less about that, and more about how all these characters came together to be a family for a short while. Like you guys said, those background episodes were there to give us a sense of where they all came from, so we could better appreciate seeing them coming together. If you watch it the series again, you realize Episode 23, Brain Scratch, is the height of their bond. They are all pulling together to rescue Faye. Even Ein gets to lend a hand with his hacking! In the next episode, Ed and Ein, instinctually, understood that this family was going to dissolve soon, and left before Spike's past caught up with him. His past catching up to him ended the pleasant dream he was experiencing with them all: the dream of a safe home and a loving family. If he survived his fight with Vicious, then his past would have become the dream, and his life on the Bebop would be his reality. He would have found out that he was "really alive", living on the Bebop. But it wasn't meant to be. It was all just a dream...

Paqi

I like how as Faye and Jet receives closure from their own personal trauma, a new one begins with Spike's passing.

JustAMeloPancake

I got a good laugh for the bittersweet prep of the final intro just to have them skip it completely like a rug pull, that's how you KNOW this is the end. One last adventure that ends with coming back to the ship, but its for the last time, saying goodbye without saying goodbye. "You keep waiting for these big moments and everything between them is Life" "In the between, nothing happened, and it was beautiful" Felt that so strongly when I first hit the end. Like my entire first viewing I distinctly remember the feeling of enjoying the one-offs and adventures, but there was always that part of you hungry for the 'Main Story', but by the time it comes to a swift end in these last 3 episodes I wish I could have more time with this found family. That last ending card of 'You're gonna carry that weight' stuck with me for a while after the first watch, mostly because I couldn't quite nail down what it was supposed to mean definitively. Eventually giving up and looking online it was nice to see so many people having their own takes on what it meant. I don't care to look it up again even if there is a 'correct' answer by now because what I settled on back then was the idea that this story has reached its end, and you as the viewer carry the weight of these characters and their stories yourself, and keeping that mindset ever since I first watched this years ago has made me appreciate all the beautiful worlds and characters and stories we have the luxury of peaking into, and the gift that the most impacting ones leave their marks for life.

I made a playlist of my favourite tracks used in the show: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3E137tPVP72neHkJftTZdo?si=9cZ1SaTrRt-Q7eyQ_H-x8w&pi=igCIwG44S9-5k

Darrach

still carrying the weight❤️

.mvnk

I’m sure now it was definitely better to leave the movie for last

refo44

Peak fiction. What always gets me most is Faye’s story. All the pain and wandering just for her to finally get some answers and for it to be so empty. She truly lost everything and the only thing she had left was the bebop. And then to lose spike on top of it all due to his own past, it’s just so sad an beautiful. “Your gonna carry that weight” really sums up the themes of the show so perfectly.

Cornhorn

You definitely have the right to do so. Who the f*ck tell you it is a funny show lol

Nake

You might be suffering now… but on the bright side you might be watching a happy after this..( depending on what the patreons vote or whatever you girls decide to pick for yourself lol)

Jack SV

Recall the first story. The couple fleeing the organization that Spike and his friends were chasing was Spike and Julia themselves. How did they appear to Spike?

yamada

You are not the same after that ending, damn. See you soon, space cowboy.

Charlie Colón

You would think that rewatching this show would desensitize me since I already know what happens, but instead I end up rewatching it and the pain gets even worse somehow.

Frieren The Hamburger Slayer

i wish there was a way to know youre in the good old days before you’ve left them 😭

LM Reactions

You've had Frieren and Haikyuu girls, enough is enough time to go back on a diet of pain

bondbond53

Holy cow! First I panicked that I somehow slept until Saturday and lost a day - after the initial shock - THANK YOU for an early drop!
