2025-06-25 16:02:27 +0000 UTCso many modern shows are shot/color graded/edited on high end studio hardware designed to make movies / "cinematic" TV and then watched on people's shitty devices with random brightness settings in bright rooms with sunlight and other distractions. streaming apps then crunch the shit out of the blacks via compression to reduce cost of delivering the data so they can save money. its like video editors forget most people are watching on living room TVs or on their phones/tablets/laptops. modern HBO has a bad habit of this but I've not seen it in an Apple TV or AMC show like you mention.
