I know what you mean with the “I hate feelings bad” for Junior. The show is very good at making you see if you’re the type of person who wants to see true justice or if you just want to see bad people hurt, when the latter rarely makes things better. Ralphie/Vito/Jackie Jr didn’t get justice, them dying si

Wayne

ALRIGHT DEN uhhh…

Ethan Notah

Yea but Carmine wouldn’t know that

Running red

Probably one of my favorite "season" opener

IanJ

Lol, missed that. I remember that movie being universally panned upon release, didn’t know Terry Winter was the screenwriter. Reminds of JT trying to pawn the Emmy; that was definitely a shot at that rewards show.

Octavio

"Are you gonna hog... ALL the ische?"

Next episode is one of the best, can't wait.

TylerNorCal

That's Ana de Armas!

Eric Viola (Zapata)

I loved that, it's so Tony... "yeah she's not-white but at least she's the same religion 🙏"

Kara

Knowing it's the last season doesn't help like you can hope in earlier seasons (and still hope here, halfway through) but like.... mans been in therapy for 6.5 seasons now 😭

Kara

They didn't even mention Mad Men in this video, but I disagree with your assessment. I wish people wouldn't say stuff like this, it shapes the first-time viewing experience. They should go into every new show as fresh/blind as possible just like with Sopranos.

Kara

Tony is truly at his worst in this season

Usul

She's Dominican....maybe. At least she's Catholic.

BND

I love how carmine is always using the wrong words for things in an effort to sound educated but no one ever notices.

Patrick

Yeah agreed. I always thought of them as separate, as I remember the long wait for the final season to air, but over time I've come to appreciate that 6a & 6b are two halves conceived together. It's no accident that the longest break between seasons was actually between 5 & 6, as Chase was working out where he's going to go with ending the show. It's true that they were called "6a & 6b" for contractual reasons, rather than the more practical "6 & 7", that's often mentioned but besides the point. In terms of production, of course they are two separate seasons, but in terms of storytelling they are one long season. It's notable that in this "season finale" hardly anything actually happens. There seems to be trouble brewing with Phil and NY, but it's all just setup for something that might be coming in the future. This episode is basically a non-finale, different to all the previous season finales in which big things happen and the stories from the season would be tied up. This one doesn't tie things up, it sets things up. Roll on, 6b.

A little in-joke is when Chris tells Julianna he's got the 50 Cent movie on DVD because they were giving it away at the car wash. The 50 Cent movie ("Get Rich Or Die Trying") was written by regular Sopranos writer Terry Winter, who co-wrote this episode.

Abacus

The contract negotiations, whatever happened there

Abacus

“for christmas? fuckin idiot” one of my favorite lines of the whole show😂

Zach D

Yeah, that’s definitely not the same doctor from the Adriana car accident that was questioned by Tony and Tony B. I don’t even think they look remotely alike lol.

season 6B is the second half of season 6. They are not completely different seasons as both are heavily intertwined in themes and plot. Thinking of them as completely different seasons does a great disservice to 6A and ignores the thematic continuity between both halves that are unique to the season (such as the theme of change another persons mentioned before, for example). the cast and crew sometimes refer it to season 7 because, from their perspective, it was the same or similar amount of time distance between filming 6A and 6B as it was between most other seasons, so for them it felt like just another season.

Funny how Phil goes on a tirade about Johnny Sac crying at his daughter's wedding, and then Phil cries over Tony's talk with him in the hospital. It reminded me of the hypocrisy of Tony telling Furio that he had to "get over it" when he caught Furio crying over his recently deceased father, and then the next scene we see Tony crying in Melfie's office about Pie-O-My.

Funny thing is, you absolutely can measure gold in gallons as it’s technically an unit of volume, it doesn’t necessarily has to apply to only liquid. Weird way to measure gold for sure but hey, Little Carmine’s brain functions a bit different, but it’s part of what has made him as effective as his father, even more so, but until he is it will be very hard to verify that he is more effective.

Echoing that this is essentially the finale of Season 6. The later seasons of The Sopranos were fraught with contract negotiation issues -- Gandolfini got a huge raise after Season 3 and gifted each of his castmates $30K because HBO wouldn't pony up for them, too -- and HBO used this "two-part season" as a cheat to avoid giving everyone a raise for Season 7. "Kaisha" originally aired on June 4, 2006. The next episode, nominally episode 13 of Season 6, aired 10 months later on April 8, 2007. For all intents and purposes, they are totally separate seasons -- Season 6 being Episodes 1 - 12 and Season 7 being Episodes 13 - 21. David Chase has since said that this is how he views the final episodes. (I'll add that Season 7 is, in my opinion, the best season of the show. Buckle up.)

Mike

Agree, especially when it happens on otherwise serious shows. It breaks the inmersion in my opinion.

Gaboxxy

It’s literally 6A and 6B, basically two completely different seasons put together for contractual reasons

Lola: it was not about the oath of me being in the mafia world, It was about the unit, it was about the family he was supposed to get, that he didn’t get with them so there is no pillar THERE IS NO FOUNDATION for you to cling onto. Considering some of the fucking disgraceful reactions I have come across mostly on YouTube in regards to the Sopranos , I just want to show some appreciation for LM. You changed my bum ass life.

Edward. M

It didn’t feel like a Christmas episode until the last three minutes. Which I’m fine with because I hate it when tv shows lay heavy into the holiday as a heavy esthetic.

You can’t measure gold as a liquid 😂😂😂

I'm going to warn that Mad Men is going to be somewhat similar in terms of exhausting characters. It's also another seven season show. Phil is older and so he likely remember some of the older mob conflicts and contrary to what Chris is saying, seems to have some genuine level of respect for the mob code. He's been bitter about his brother dying to Tony B since the end of last season. He has all the personal reasons in the world to have Tony killed but still won't despite prompting. The show likes putting wrinkles in the ideologies being spouted (even if it's usually broadly true). Tony's scene where he describes where he went during his coma is an echo to him sharing it with Hal Holbrook's character in the hospital earlier in the season and one of the few genuine moments of humanity between two otherwise awful people (he didn't really need to share the coma story, could have said the generic spiel about grandchildren). I don't believe he's shared it with anyone else but those two, not even Melfi.

This episode is one of the biggest indictments on Carmela as a character and her moral compass. You genuinely see what’s actually important to her. It’s easy to miss but her throwing away that private investigator’s card to instead call about her spec house is in a nutshell who she is and has always been this entire show. She spent the last couple of episodes worried and filled with dread about Adriana but as soon as Tony dangles the newest shiniest thing to her, she goes full retard on the glaring Adriana issue and focuses on the new thing, akin to a teenager who gets a new console and puts off his homework until it’s too late. She genuinely is worried and fears about the Adriana issue but as long as Tony Soprano criminal master mind keeps funding that lifestyle and busting doors open for her she can stomach anything even the cold blooded murder of a “friend” and the non stop ass rape of everyone else’s lives.

Edward. M

Yeah the song in the beginning is moonlight Mile by The Rolling Stones off of a great album called sticky fingers

To answer your question re: Carmine, at this moment he's essentially a semi-retired Captain. He was a Captain while his father was Boss, and then he jockeyed with Johnny Sack for the title of Boss, and then he eventually stepped down and let Johnny take the position after their conflict in season five. He's still IN the family (So technically he works for Johnny Sack/Phil) but he's allowed to do his own thing as long as he stays out of the way. Hence why he can broker negotiations like this. Speaking of Carmine, there's a semi-popular theory in the fandom that he's smarter than he lets on, and that he DELIBERATELY torpedoed the negotiations between Tony and Phil by bringing up Phil's brother. The theory says that he backed down from his war with Johnny Sack in season five when he saw that Johnny had more support, but it was just a tactical pause so he could undermine without being suspected. By stirring up conflict "behind the scenes" he could get Tony and Johnny Sack (Or Phil now) to weaken each other, and then come in later and take over without any serious opposition. I've never been 100% sold on the theory, but it has a point that this was a PARTICULARLY stupid move for him to mention Phil's brother at all. Even he isn't always that stupid.

JBK405

That scene with AJ giving away the bike was so stupid. Lola was right they would just take it and not go anywhere, or come back tomorrow to see if they get something else.

Jack Hoff

I think they missed that joke XD

John

Fact check: Frank Vincent (Phil Leotardo) really does look like the Shah of Iran.

Marcus Cato

He took care of his family, that’s what he did! He was a great businessman and a family man, and in this comment section Tony Soprano is a hero. End of story!

Gaboxxy

well, i've been catching up with sopranos now that i'm up to date with haikyuu and let me tell you, binging the sopranos is not as delightful and mood lifting 😂 god, what an amazing character tony is but i fucking despise him and 90% of the characters on this show. it's like when i was reading withering heights, amazing piece of work but almost every single character made me want to punch a wall.
