Severance 1x09 Reaction

😂 easy there comrade.

BNJ

yuck, bootlicker

Riley

I always think back to the orientation when Milichik said that death only happens outside and not in Lumon. I think they take the chips and put it into new people somehow

Alex Martin

Why does Lola hate capitalism so much? Capitalism fucking rocks! I love it.

BNJ

Here's the leading theory on Irving (feel free to ignore if you want to find out for yourself) Irving is painting the view of the Testing Room elevator that Milchek sees. This implies he was a manager, or at least had Milcheks role at one point, and has since been memory wiped as a new innie. This explains why he has all the papers in his house about severed employees and their addresses too

Dylan

My completely wild take is that the severance chip that Cobel was wearing around her neck is her mother's, and she is investigating re-integration and memory retention because her end goal is implanting the chip in somebody to get her dead mother back. Supporting this: we're told Mark was with Gemma in hospital when she was dying, not sure if there's a suggestion that he saw her fully dead. How then does Lumon turn her into Ms Casey? Is it the same body, reanimated? Is it a clone? It's ambiguous enough at this stage it could be genuinely anything, but the idea that Lumon have either reanimated a person or created a new life from a duplicate might play into Cobel wanting to bring her dead mother back.

Martin Heron

Not only that she also tells innie helly she/they are going to make all the others suffer for this. So may be she is trying to go after parts of lumen in some way. But she is certainly not on the side of mark and MDR.

Good show. What's the next one?

Dale Tucker

This is probably my 10th or 11th time through the show. I very much enjoyed all these reactions. One thing I actually only really noticed/thought about on this watch about Ms. Cobel: I originally always kind of struggled to reconcile her seeming to want Mark to break through the severance/recognize Gemma and her apparent worshiping of Kier/etc. I thought about more this watch that it's important to remember that Kier had nothing to do with Severance. That is a fairly recent invention, where Lumon has been around for over 100 years. So it's entirely possible that she is a true believer in Kier Eagan/the cult aspect, but not a fan of the severance procedure (possibly related to her mother/a relative as others have theorized with the medical equipment in her shrine).

Nume Hall

They find the baby before he comes out yelling that she’s alive lol, he also says it holding a photo of her in his hands right after he and was able to tell his sister quite literally almost everything… unless they mess up the sisters memory I’d say they know 🤷‍♂️

Kale

Audience satisfaction has to be considered. It's too bitter of a 180 to cheapen your season cliffhanger in that way. I think it would be a major misstep

Isaac

one of your funniest reactions to the date 😂 milena looked like she wanted to cry half the time and punch someone the other half a lola like she wanted to stop the episode altogether. honestly, i was kinda the same and started speaking to the laptop because i was frustrated.

sand_fl

Same, i don't watch trailers usually but here i had to haha

sakurabraus

I've watched through the show 3 times now and this is the first time I'm realising outie-Mark thought he was sparing innie-Mark... he thought he was creating a version of himself that got to live without the pain and grief of Gemma, not realizing he was creating essentially a perma-work slave who still felt the subliminal effects of grief. I always thought Mark was sparing himself but that doesn't make sense because he'd miss Gemma at 9am, and then wake up at 5:15pm still missing her. Sad and poingnat. We can speculate now without spoiling yay! My guess is that Irving is trying to investigate severance, and he's painting the "testing floor hallway" to try to get a subconscious message through to himself (which is half working, the black goo is making it through, just not the image of the testing floor yet). Outie-Irving wants Innie-Irving to investigate the testing floor and find the people like Gemma who don't get to leave.

Kara

But Fishes was not fun. It was just stressful and a bad time. This was actually stressful, but interesting and fun to watch.

MaxVSTheGames

Nothing will ever beat "Fishes" from The Bear in my opinion.

Michael M

He was carrying Gemma’s picture, and the trailer has Gemma missing posters so I don’t think they are going to spend much time on it even if there is a slight misunderstanding.

the chosen one

Been a while since I watched the finale, but didn't Mark carry a picture of him and Gemma as he runs out of the room? Maybe to the party-goer they'll assume that he's talking about the baby but Devon and Outie Mark could hopefully put 2 and 2 together and surmise why Innie Mark yells out "She's Alive" in a panic while carrying the picture, especially if Devon explains the whole situation to him. This could also serve as a great reason on why Mark decides to return to Lumon instead of quitting like he originally wanted to. He wants to know if Gemma is in there.

IanJ

My theory: The Outies believe that by “She's alive” he meant the baby, which means the mystery of his wife will continue to play a role in season 2. Also, Helly's Outie can still spin the speech that she sees normal work activity without Severance as imprisonment and Severance has freed her from that. Lumen also doesn't know that Mark's Innie has told his sister everything, which means that he and his family can now spy on Lumen. Still problematic for me is the breakout from the office with the key card that Mark's Outie smuggled in, which allowed the Innies to open the locked door and wander the corridors again. It's not clear to me why Lumen doesn't examine the camera footage of how they broke out. It would tell them that Mark's Outie is also working against Lumen. I really hope to see tightened security measures from Lumen in Season 2 to control their workers and protect the Outies from being taken over again.

Robert H.

this show is a masterpiece, i hope they will keep it up in season 2

Krzysztof Ko

My theory is that outie Irving is trying to destroy Lumon from the inside, and is gathering every available info to help him achieve that aim, including severing himself. This obsession with Lumon might still remain in his subconscious and innie Irving might mistakenly interpret it as his outie being a huge fan of Lumon, hence his initial characterization.

IanJ

Hahaha welcome to the Severance finale blue balls. One of the biggest cliffhangers in recent tv

Karabo

I must say it was funny how much hope y’all had in Harmony to go against the company when she was literally worshipping at an altar of the company founder in her own home lol

Jed U

All I can be is patient & patient is all I am

Isaac

Reimagined as a limited series? yeah, I say put it at 10 episodes(the way Kier intended) and you have a very complete story. I'd be into it.

Isaac

I see you, Lola. Learning names

Isaac

Silo is incredible. I saw both Silo and Severance around the same time and honestly I can't really say which one is better. Really great shows.

Kenneth thomas

This was the most stressful episode I’ve ever seen of tv. It was too much suspense.

the chosen one

I want to throw Silo out there too...another Apple Original with an excellent season 1, and Season 2 is coming around the same time as severance.

Harfie

I would have been perfectly happy if the show ended where it did. Letting the audience come up with their own conclusions is a fantastic thing to do sometimes.

Elli

haha I wanna say so sorry girls for that ending, but I mean, we're all suffering the same fate here. January can't come soon enough!

Harfie

Notes: Irving has been painting the down-only elevator to the Testing Floor(where Ms Casey was sent) and not the Break Room. I think it's an important distinction and implies much more about his outer self. (Edit, Milena caught it, good work!) I believe it was intended for 10 episodes. and was cut down to 9. No complaints about the runtime, this was one of the most well-paced episodes, given the multiple perspectives!!

Isaac

If this was torture, imagine having to wait almost 3 years for the second season lmao. Break room levels of pain

HenryM

loved the episode, i couldn't wait after the last episode cliffhanger and just had to watch it, i even skipped the discussion after the reaction and played the next episode and went back to listen to the outro after i finished the season. don't think i can't handle rewatching this right now at +2 in the morning though, so will probably watch it tomorrow so i can enjoy it thoroughly and not yawn every 5 minutes lol

sand_fl

You guys should react to Interview With The Vampire (2022) on amc. It’s the best show out right now.
