Slow & Steady Does NOT Win The Race. Move QUICKER
Added 2024-02-20 17:43:12 +0000 UTCThere's a children’s story about a rabbit and a turtle racing.
In the story, the rabbit, super fast, stops to sleep because he thinks he has won already.
The turtle, super slow, keeps going, passes the sleeping rabbit and ends up winning.
Moral of the story? "Slow and steady wins the race."
This story promotes that if people just:
- Go 1 step at a time
- At 'their own pace' which is comfortable for them
That they're going to win by going at a comfortable slow pace.
But this is why it is only a story. In real life, this will never happen.
Many adults are still living in this story in their adulthood. Slow and steady does not win, it will lose the race.
In real life, speed and execution is what wins races. Many people don't move fast enough for two reasons:
1. They have 0 idea what they are doing
2. They are uncomfortable moving faster than the speed they're going at.
In order for you to grow and to get better and move yourself forward, you MUST step out of your comfort zone. We all know this already.
But the challenge for many people is that anytime they want to leave their comfort zone, their mind starts telling them why they probably should not do it.
- Financially discomfort
- Emotional discomfort
- Physical discomfort
People resist these things even though they logically understand that leaving their comfort zone is what will make them improve.
So people end up resisting the very thing which will allow them to grow and thats why they experience soo much consistent stagnation in their life.
This paradox holds back MANY people.
This is exactly why most people are average.
Its not that most people don't want or can't be better, it's because most people are unwilling to do things that will move them out of their normal modes of comfort in order to get better.
If you know of any, comment ONE place in life where you’re rewarded for achieving an outcome more SLOWLY than someone else?
“Steady” is a good thing. Consistency and dependability is valuable.
But being slow? No.
Every time I talk to a person who’s a generation or two older than me, they always tell me about what they wish they had done sooner. Faster.
They wish to started investing their money earlier.
They wish they had raise their prices earlier
They wish they had thought about their retirement years earlier, quicker.
They wish they didn’t sleep on opportunities that was right in front of them.
Something they did at age 47, that they wish they had done at age 27.
NO ONE ever asks me what you wish you did slower.
The only exceptions I can think of is maybe people could have delayed with having children or getting married for a few extra years.
Speed is the key to life. The faster you get things done, the more life you get to live before you expire and die.
To do things with speed, you need to REMOVE anything that makes you slow.
You need a plan of action — BEFORE you begin taking action.
This is known as a “strategy.”
Architects strategise the building of high rises before one drop of concrete is laid.
Generals strategise their battle plans before a single bullet is fired.
Professionals strategise their sales presentations before sitting down to meet with a prospect.
Strategy is about figuring out what outcome you wish to achieve, and the process you will follow in order to achieve it, before you begin doing anything.
Why: Because it allows you to move with more speed and decisiveness.
The bottom line: If you want to operate with more speed, you need a clear, clean, complete strategy for HOW to operate — BEFORE you begin operating.
Move with urgency. Stop going 'slow and steady'.
- Till next time.
