Michael Ballinger

Frieren is happiness.

Robert H.

I think they deserve a break from crying their eyes out hahaha hxh was tough, and frieren is gonna be tough I feel

Lau

Haikyu will bring about an era of prosperity and growth that we all need

KIMI

yall would love haikyuu so so much

Stevenmcd4

If Haikyuu wins, you'll have the time of your lives since you watched Mob Psycho and Fullmetal at the same time. Pure love, joy and HYPE :3

Wallas

while I think Frieren heals parts of my soul, I believe this show is gonna tear me to pieces. Himmel I blame you, every time you're on screen I bawl. This is emotional damage for me

Lau

I think it was obvious as a German speaker :D But I also have the "vocabulary" for the fourth episode where I translate exactly that: [ Episode 4 ] Granz/Glanz (Channel) = gloss, shine Flamme = flame, fire Voll (Basin) = full, whole, complete Bredt/Brett (region) = board, plank Aureole = radiant wreath, halo Ende = the end, finish Riegel (Canyon) = bolt, latch

Robert H.

That’s fair. Frieren ended up being one of his favorite shows so he kinda went deep into his own theories as well as into some academic nitty-gritty on certain terminology. I thought his analysis on the named characters for the first four episodes was still worth the watch though. Definitely did not pick up that Himmel = Sky/Heaven, and that the mere ten year journey to Aureole, which also loosely means heaven, which adds a double-meaning layer to their journey to see Himmel. Learning little things like that made me appreciate his video, but there’s a good to fair chance I’m pretty dumb and everyone else picked that up.

My Toasty Toast

Your Name, A Silent Voice, Suzume, Wolf Children, I Want To Eat Your Pancreas, ...

Robert H.

It's funny that someone took the effort. But I find it a bit too overloaded and with the analysis there is somehow too much information. I'd rather see the two of them understand the characters themselves with the help of the translation.

Robert H.

I have also translated the German words from the first 3 episodes: [ Episode 1 ] Frieren = freeze, be cold Himmel = sky, heaven Heiter = cheerful, bright Eisen = iron, ferrous (city of) Strahl = beam, ray Fern = distant, far away Ewig (the Sage) = eternal, forever [ Episode 3 ] (city of) Warm = warm Größe (Forest) = big, size Qual = agony, torment

Robert H.

found it meaningful that time isn’t being measured by a common standardized year but instead himmel’s death. in the eternity frieren has lived the one clear event that divides her life is before and after himmel

Sebastian

@Rrr why do you say that?

KIMI

the options of anime movies are boiled down to Your name or A silent voice i think

Rrr

If anyone wants to appreciate Frieren more, there’s this German guy who made a video explaining the meaning behind all the names in Frieren (which are all German). It adds so much more for the characters imo. The video is timestamped and chronological, so he goes by names as they come up each episode so if you’re worried about spoilers for later episodes it’s easy to know when to stop watching. At the very least the main characters in the first four episodes are worth learning about what their names mean as it very much embodies each character. https://youtu.be/v_QP06N1mnk?si=0d7fEVwrUmuxnsPg

My Toasty Toast

I was pretty late last video, so I’ll post this one more time just incase, Hope this helps with the names. Frieren is pronounced ( Free - Ren ) Heiter is pronounced ( High - ter ) Fern is pronounced ( Fair - n ) As in Being Fair and then you add the N Eisen is pronounced ( I - Zin ) The letter i and then the word zin And as for Himmel you’re already saying his name right so yeah no need for corrections lol

Jay

Some reactors just don’t try to remember it too or ignore past it. Esp for a series as Frieren who thrives off nuances, life and relationships appreciation and mundane moments

halfeldian

That was one of the reasons I hoped they would at least watch these episodes together. It's such blink-and-you'll-miss-it content, but it says so much

Isaac

There are so many lovely anime movies I think they'd enjoy.

cosmotron

I have a proposal before you start the next long anime. Maybe will you watch an anime movie in the meantime? I film I'm sure you will enjoy and will impact your life is "Your Name" (Kimi na wa) from 2016. It could be a wonderful experience. There are of course several others possible anime movies instead of "Your name". But that is my suggestion

refo44

and in this house, we love headpats! Also good call by Milena that Frieren has the spell to turn a sweet grapes to sour

halfeldian

Finally Frieren Day! I'm so happy.

refo44

It will be an enjoyable journey

This is a fragment from a short novel outside the show that I want to share with you guys that I think it's relevant to this episode: ''What did Himmel like?'' Thinking back, Himmel always ordered his food last. It was often a different dish from theirs, or he would choose a dish that was easy to share between the four of them. After that, he would portion out his food little by little, share that, and say, ''Isn't it more fun to have a variety of dishes at once?'' They had eaten around the table in as many places as she could remember. They partook seafood when they were in coastal towns, they ate wild greens and hunted game in campgrounds, and they particularly were fond of each region's local specialties. ''The food that can only be eaten in the place you're in becomes a shared memory with the people you went in with. Even if you forget. you'll remember again when you go there and eat the local food. That's how I want to travel.''

2024 shall be filled with FF

Isaac

Love Frieren Fridays.
