There are no happy endings. In my opinion Flint died in those woods and the rest was just another fabrication from the greatest story teller ever... Thank you ladies for taking us along, it has been a great journey. At some point in the future, consider watching the movie "13 Hours"... for absolutely no particular reason that is in any way related to this show.

Preacher

Yeah this is my favorite live action show as well, and so far nothing else has come close to touching it. And all great character faves! It's very hard to choose.

cosmotron

I mean, its meant to be ambiguous. It's fine if you think this is the truth, but there isn't more evidence for one or the other.

cosmotron

Oh and another show that is similar to this in terms of writing and compelling characters, is Last Kingdom. With what i've seen of Vikings (which never impressed me to tell you the truth) Last Kingdom is a similar period, but a completely different story and on another level.

AlexBoss

Just want to add to the discussion between the possible endings. Of course on can go with the literal point of view that they give in the show. However there are far too many hints and points that support the Silver killed Flint ending. - Why wouldn't Silver tell Flint outright what he had found. Not even on that scene before he pulls a gun out to him, but before that when they were still debating on what to do with saving Madi. It would have been a very clear motivator also for him. Or even before that. - When Silver is holding Flint at gunpoint and says i must end it another way, the scene cuts to birds suddenly flying away (as if scared by something - aloud sound let's say??) and his men, who were quite far away, suddenly setting off to go join him, without a word as if motivated by something they were expecting ( loud sound maybe?) - The scene i believe has a different filter than the rest of the show, because it is a story by Silver and not what we actually see happening, which of course you can interpret any way you want, but when added to the rest of the hints then... - Flint also says to Silver about "even you can't come up with a story to explain to her what you did" (or something to that effect). - The man Flint became, i don't believe would have been persuaded to return to such an early state, and what's more to also agree to be in chains. There are people throughout history who have been driving forces of change. These people have never been stopped by personal wants, tragedies, or threats and promises. They have almost all been stopped by death, or very few by actual success. Flint i believe was such a portrayal. The man who he had become, was an agent of change, and he would not be persuaded, i believe, by promises of personal happiness. I mean the guy who had just made such a compelling speech about the need to fight (also brought me close to tears the first time i heard it), can't have been persuaded so easily against it in return for some personal gain, as that would be VERY hypocritical for his character, and i believe that Flint was not one (at that moment). -John on the other hand was always portrayed as a man who was after his personal happiness above most else (not judging him, most of us are like that). So i believe this ending (him killing Flint) is again most close to his character at that particular moment. - Finally something i believe another person here mentioned, which is more of a consistency proof, is that if Flint at the end was alive and satisfied to remain his days there, why wouldn't he tell the others where the treasure was? The fact that the treasure in treasure island is still on the ground, tells me that Flint took it to his grace, and if things were as John presented them, he wouldn't have much reason to do that. Also in treasure island Silver is a mess, riddled by guilt and past grandeur, which fits what Flint told him would happen at some point in his life. So i realize that it is not such a happy ending, but i believe it is one fitting for all the characters of the story involved.

AlexBoss

Especially since we see Mrs. Hudson reading 'A General History of the Pyrates' at the end of the series. Doubt our Rogers was involved in this one

Isaac

My point was more on the way he told Madi the lie (assuming it was a lie), it was kind of creepy to me. But regarding you comment, I think John understands the logical reasons, just not the feelings that fuels them because he has never experienced any of that. Their life experiences made them want different things, and John just wanted a wife.

Gustavo

i'm still not over it, what can I watch now? There is no way i'll find another live action show as beautifully written as black sails. As for the characters, i love them all but i will put John, Flint, Vane, Eleonore and Max above still

sakurabraus

Love what Lola said at the end, how stories shape you and can left such an impact on you, that's also why I love watching shows and reading books so much. And like you, black sails embodies everything i love about a piece of media. I would have never played this show if it wasn't for you ( i mean i wasn't even aware of its existence and it's not available in any streaming in my country...) so thank you to everyone that have recommend it for years, because it's now my favorite live-action show. I will miss your reactions sm but at least i still have hxh to look forward to!

sakurabraus

Eh, the show differs enough from real life I can close my eyes and pretend this doesn't happen.

cosmotron

The funniest (or saddest) part is that Woodes Rogers still wins in the end. In real life after being arrested for his debts he ends up becoming governor of Nassau again and contributes to the book 'A General History of the Pyrates' that shaped the modern perception of Pirates along with directly inspiring Treasure Island itself.

Wojo

And it's so interesting how Jack... can't see it. He thinks the flag is "just fine", and is unable to recognize its impact. I read it as the showrunners officially handing over the show to the audience to evaluate, as a "now you guys decide if this art piece will truly transcend". You always need a witness! ahah

Mat Land

Regarding your last paragraph, if Silver is lying I always read it as the confirmation that he never really understood Flint's (and Madi's) reasons for fighting. He is placing his own psychology on Flint: Silver "gave up" the war (because it was never really his war to begin with) for love, so in this reality he has to make it so that Flint too would give up the war for love.

Mat Land

Assuming that the end we see for Flint is true, I don't really see it as a win over civilization. Society deemed them monsters and didn't want them to be a part of it, and they weren't. They were sent to a prison farm. "Oh, but at least they have each other." True, but they will never get to really live the life, they don't have the freedom for it. But, of course, they reuniting is a comfort scene that makes us happy. Now a question for those who tend to believe on the "happy" ending. If John proved to Flint he was telling the truth by "giving" Thomas back to him, what's your guys take on why John and Jack didn't get the chest back? I would assume that after seeing Thomas, Flint wouldn't resist on telling where to find the chest. Now, if we consider that Flint is dead, then the scene of John telling Madi the story becomes very weird to me. In this case he is not just telling a random story and trying to convince random people. He is lying to the love of his life about not having killed his best friend, and what's weird to me is that he does it effortlessly and some times with kind of a smile on his face, which seems almost psychopathic.

Gustavo

I remember reading here about Black Sails being the "true story", but I didn't understand if it's your (or someone else) opinion or if it's something the writers of the show said. In any case, it's very hard for me to see it that way. If it was the same author or if he was involved in the writing of the prequel I would accept it (a good example of this is House of the Dragon, which tells the true story of what Martin's book tell through different points of view), but in this case if it was like you say, it would be just some people taking a novel from 150 years ago and telling "No no, the book doesn't tell the true story, we decide what the true story is". So for me what is told in Treasure Island is the true story and I fully accept Black Sails as a prequel with some creative licenses. I read about that too, but if I remember correctly you said that that's something the writers told, so that I can accept. There is a gap between them yes, but we've seen scenes of reconcilation like that multiple times and not always they show the two people hugging or something, it could be left implied. But yeah, I see the ambiguity and it could be as you say, even though I always interpreted as Madi forgiving Silver because the book mentions Silver having a black wife, but we know nothing about that woman so it could be anyone.

Sweet Owl

I wish you would do another separate discussion talking about the whole show. I could hear both of you talk about black sails all day. I’m gonna miss it so much. Was also curious to know your thoughts on Billy and Woode Roger’s fates

Tyler Jackson

As for the interpretation of the ending, for my part I only take so much from what we know of Treasure Island. I mentioned it in a different comment, but for me its clear that Black Sails is the "true" story of these characters, and Treasure Island is a story told about them afterward. Hence, who is to say how "true" any of its story is? But, that's just me. :) As for Silver and Madi, I don't think it really presents it so straightforwardly. Again, talked about it a little in another comment, but it is quite deliberate that we don't see them embrace at the end. Instead they are standing with that big gap between them, which implies a lot. Even if they get back together, that gap will always be there. So imo it's quite a nuanced scene, even though its only a few seconds long!

cosmotron

"It is the art that leaves the mark...it must transcend...it must be true." God, what a fantastic monologue that just so completely captures everything in this show. I talked about it already in another comment, but it's so incredible how the writing of this show works on all these different levels. Black Sails isn't "true" but it is at the same time. The art created by this show - in turn inspired by another story, which was on its own inspired by stories - has transcended. Left its mark. Like Jack Rackham's pirate flag.

cosmotron

Oh, this is a very interesting analysis as well.

cosmotron

Silver: Eren chooses the cabin with Mikasa... Flint: Eren chooses the rumbling...

Dan Badour

I really like this way of thinking about the ending, very interesting. And I completely agree with the rest of what you said as well.

cosmotron

I’m assuming when you guys say you’re doing a short show it’s gonna be a live action? I see some people recommending anime so I was just curious.

Kaycee

Sad to see this end I was one of the first constantly begging for this show years ago and now it’s over. 😭

Melkor

And it's the same thing Peter Ashe says after Miranda is shot!

Mat Land

also! someone smarter than me made this observation (and i can't remember who) but i love how one of the show's statements is that there is no "peaceful room" without suffering happening outside of it to make it happen, and to live inside that peaceful room means to willingly ignore the suffering happening outside ("Every culture since earliest antiquity has survived this way, defining itself by the things it excludes."). which is what silver and max and jack&anne and, well, all of us, end up doing. found it! it's this wonderful post (https://www.tumblr.com/maremote/686172763889795072/black-sails-is-a-show-with-a-lot-to-say-but-one-of?source=share) oh, and if you are in the mood for more anti-colonialist narratives about sad men on boats, i truly recommend "the terror"; slow, heavy show, but so well written&acted

Mat Land

I honestly believe both endings at the same time! it's schrodinger's flint: he's both dead and alive until someone checks - in the same way that i believe that madi&flint's war was both beautiful and winnable but also doomed to fail, at the same time. in the same way piracy both does and does not exist in nassau at the end of the show - until someone checks! (it's this beautiful theme that has been building all season of being able to hold opposite concepts in your mind - violence vs. love, war vs. wife, past vs. present&future; it ends up being the biggest split between flint, who is able to "watch two points in space at the same time", and silver, who is not. it's so ironic, considering how they are presented in season 1, that in the end it is flint who is revealed to be the hopeful, revolutionary optimist, and silver the cynical pessimist) the show is so brilliant in how it nestles itself within both literary and historical reality, because both literature and history share the trait of being stories told to people who were not there to witness the "truth" - but with history there was a truth. we know what the possible future of madi&flint's war could have been - the haitian revolution started in 1791! that's why that is the part of silver's betrayal that i have the hardest time forgiving: there was true hope there. but for flint, and silver and thomas: that is literature, so i don't have to choose!

Mat Land

I read some comments here about Flint actually being alive or not, my answer to that contains spoilers to the book so I'll write it in ROT13: Va gur obbx vg vf fnvq gung Syvag tnir Ovyyl gur znc jvgu gur ybpngvba bs gur gernfher juvyr ur jnf qlvat, fb vg vf abg cbffvoyr gung Fvyire xvyyrq uvz ng guvf gvzr va gur fubj. Ovyyl Obarf vf nyfb ersreerq nf Syvag'f svefg zngr, fb gur cngu naq raqvat gurl tvir Ovyyl va gur fubj xvaqn pbagenqvpgf jung vf gbyq va gur obbx. --------------- I'll also copy some thoughts about the final episode I wrote somewhere else, they haven't changed so I'll save me some time and just copy-paste them: The dialogue between Flint and Silver on Skull Island is my favourite in the whole show, I never get tired of it and always give me emotions and chills. I'm very satified with the finale, I heard some didn't like it but I did. Very happy to see Featherstone as governor and Idelle at his side, always lked both of them a lot. Honestly I'm less happy about Max, I won't go into that anymore, but I never hid my opinion about her. Silver and Madi... I'm fine with their end of the story, but I wouldn't have minded a more tragic ending for them: I'm not talking about Madi being dead, but about Madi not forgiving Silver for what he did, like she said he didn't just betrayed her trust but planned for a long time to do it. To be clear, I say this because the tragedy would fit with the characters and the show, not because I have something against Silver, I actually love him. The flag you see in the end is the most famous and recognizible jolly roger of all, and it was indeed Jack Rackham's; in the end he managed to live a mark in history :) About the real Jack, he actually deposed Vane as a Captain, they were not close friends like in the show, he also was a pirate for only a couple of years (most pirates had a short story for obvious reasons) and he ended up hanged. He also met Anne Bonny about a year before his end if I recall correctly, they did not spent half a lifetime together.

Sweet Owl

Thank you both so much for taking us all on this journey with you and for investing the proper care and attention to story and character details that a show like this requires. I’ve watched the show so many times, but experiencing it with you two, it really does feel fresh because of the way you’ve engaged with it. I would LOVE to have you both on my podcast to discuss after you’ve finished your re-watch, and in the meantime, I’ve got a years worth of episodes should you find you need them. Recovering emotionally from this show is something we all do together as a fandom. 🤧

Kendra Klasek

You may as well stop doing top 5 and just do a 3x3

My Toasty Toast

I will forever believe John shot Flint for real. Toby Stephens said the same in an interview.

Jaroslav Dočekal

I read a really good review of Black Sails where it talks about how John Silver is essentially a character who's a coward who seeks comfort. This may sound like an insult, but it's not necessarily meant to be one. It's a crude description that's true for alot of people. It's why Silver runs away from his past and suppresses it. It's why his reasoning for wanting the gold was basically so he coud gain freedom from the nature of the world (labor, hunger, the sea, etc...) It's why he chooses to stay a pirate after getting his leg chopped off, because he fears that without being a member of a crew, he will no longer be able to survive on his own. Silver alludes to this in 3x03, when he tells Flint that he gave up his claim to the gold "because without this crew, I'm just an invalid" It's why he attaches himself so deeply to Madi after only a relatively short period of time, because a person such as him has likely never developed any deep human connections, and a life with Madi symbolizes a type of comfort that he felt he'd never have and might never again. I think it's so fitting for his character that his final action in the show is his ultimate act of cowardice; whether it's killing Flint literally or figuratively.

Scott

When the show first ended, I was so attached to Flint that I tried to believe he was alive and searched for think pieces on the internet for proof of it. It was always inconclusive because I believe they designed the narrative to balance perfectly 50/50 for both sides, forcing you to accept that the canon will give you no easy truth, and you must choose your own beliefs on the mountain of your own biases. It's crazy how relevant the themes of this show grow by the day. Revisiting the series with you, I now choose to believe that Flint died on that island. I think John searched for a lead on Thomas and it lead to a dead end in that opening scene. I think if Thomas were really alive, then John would have pulled out that card earlier to bargain with Flint. He would not have left them in that situation where they engage in a duel, almost kill each other 5 times, lose all the crew, almost lose Madi, etc. That he resorted to such violence before using his words does not make sense to me - unless that was his only choice, because Thomas was not alive. The only time we see the story crop up is long after the fact, when there is nobody left to care or verify it. The way the sequence is shot is so brilliant - suddenly dreamy, with lens flares, using a composition so parallel it's almost artificial. I think John is beautifully written and very sinister by the end, **(SPOILER: a perfect prequel to the role he plays in Treasure Island)**. That they left Billy alive and other details also makes me think they are careful to lead into Treasure Island, so on that basis, I choose to believe Flint is dead because it would only elevate the writing further. This is a show about the power of a good narrative - the power in telling people what they want to hear - and for its final hat-trick, Silver sells both Madi and the audience the story they most want to believe.

Ninaly

Gurren Lagann for me is like a personal favorite. It’s the most hopeful and inspiring show I’ve ever watched and the kick logic to the door aspect of it works so well with the setting of the world that I can’t think of it as a downside.

Isaiah Cox

I remember not liking Elenor pretty much as soon as Vane died. And after that I didn't *hate* her, but I was just like "get her off the screen I want to see Flint" or always waiting to see other characters more. In retrospect she was an interesting and complex character that I appreciate. It's just tough, like you guys said, to see a character betray another, when that other character loved them so much.

Vict

Idunno if they'd like GL that much. It's very much a stop thinking show. Code Geass would be much better imo. Madoka is a top tier pick also though.

Flubbedsquid

As one character would say, Talent is something you make bloom.

Salvatore

Give it a shot! i'm not good with words either but the more you do it the better, It makes you think more about the things you talk about or even realize things you never did because of it.

Salvatore

YESSSS I’ve been so obsessed with this show ever since I watched it a few months ago 😭

Isaiah Cox

I'd love for them to watch Madoka. Especially since they were looking for more anime with female leads!

cosmotron

I wish I was good with words I’d be writing so many essays in the comments 😭

Isaiah Cox

Thank you Cosmo! this show inspired me so much that I picked up my old drawing habits. I loved reading all your comments as well! they were an important part of the experience 😄

HenryM

I will have to shill for madoka magica (12 episodes) and gurren Lagann (27 episodes) they’re both relatively short shows. Madoka especially is a classic that I feel like everyone should watch especially with a new movie coming soon.

Isaiah Cox

That’s another one in the books. I’m so so happy y’all finally got to experience this masterpiece of television. The fanbase is dedicated but I still feel like it’s underrated to the general audiences. Im just happy to see you got as much enjoyment from it as I did the 1st time I watched it and to see you rank it in your top 5 with all the amazing shows you’ve watched brings an indescribable amount of joy to my heart. Thank you for this amazing journey 🙏🏾

Isaiah Cox

Great answer! I completely agree. And one of the fun things rewatching is getting to appreciate minor characters like Featherstone or Idelle even more- she’s there from the start and has some great moments in s1.

cosmotron

It’s literally a crime

cosmotron

Understandable! I know a lot of people feel that way. The ladies on Fathom’s Deep have the same feeling for example.

cosmotron

Yeah it was definitely very dreamlike, the color grading was very similar to the one used in the Miranda sequences in s3. Buuut it’s also like the flashbacks with Flint and Silver we have been seeing. All so deliberately ambiguous.

cosmotron

I have really enjoyed reading your comments and seeing your artwork as you’ve watched the show! I’m so happy you came to love it so much.

cosmotron

Toby Stephens himself said that he would “never move on from Flint”. The cast loves the show just as much as its fans, and it’s lovely how passionate they are about it. (Seriously, go listen to some of their interviews on Fathom’s Deep in the document I made.) So, yeah, this is a story that stays with you. And every rewatch has just led to me finding more and more layers to appreciate. I’ve never seen a show like this one, and I doubt I ever will.

cosmotron

I envy you for having this journey ahead of you

HenryM

I said in last episode how Flint became one of my favorites of all time, but I still love Jack, Vane, Eleanor, Max, Anne, I love all of them lol, even minor characters like Featherstone and Idelle were so good

HenryM

Well girls time to read the book .

Sone

To this day I don't know what ending to believe in, but I tend to lean more towards the not so happy one.

Gustavo

Toby Stephens not getting recognized for his performance must be some kind of sin

HenryM

Yeah that shot of the birds flying away was there for a reason. Or the way they shot Flint and Thomas's reunion was very dreamlike/heavenly (reminded me a bit of Gladiator). But still, happy ending believers unite!

HenryM

"The stories we want to believe, those are the ones that survive..." When I saw the reunion I broke down lol. I choose to believe Silver's story about Flint, and I accept it as the truth. I'm gonna be thinking about their final conversation for a while, Flint caring about how history might remember them, how the ones who they're fighting against will shape their legacy to fit their narrative, and John simply replying with "I don't care"... just full body chills. "It must be awful being you" that's the line I instantly remembered from way back, but the thing is, now John caught a glimpse of the world through Flint's eyes when he thought he had lost Madi, full of darkness and rage. It's understandable how he rejected Flint's war in fear of losing her, but I also see how taking that choice away from Madi meant losing her either way. Overall I absolutely loved this finale and your reaction, how you instantly got emotional in the first few minutes for the potential of seeing Thomas, how you immediately saw how poetic the resolution to Billy and Flint's final fight was, or how you recognized the meaning behind Silver talking to the cook. You guys are my favorites!

HenryM

Great conversation about the ending. I too tend to believe the "happier" ending in which Thomas and James reunite, but the ambiguity of it is what makes it so beautiful all the same. And there's equal evidence for both: I've seen a lot of people be convinced by the moment where we see that the birds on the island have been scared by some kind of loud noise. It's not a jump to assume it was a gunshot, and it was only after that moment that the crew started walking toward where Silver and Flint had been standing. So for some people. that's enough on its own to convince them that Flint is dead. Of course, an easy explanation is that Silver shot into the air as a signal to those men, because we are not meant to know the answer. I think what the show says about stories, and what is "true" is particularly interesting. The show as a whole isn't literally true - it's not historically accurate, and so on. But it is still True in its storytelling. In its themes and ideas and spirit. Something can be true on an emotional or metaphorical level, and that kind of truth is incredibly meaningful.

cosmotron

Ugh the writing is just peak

My Toasty Toast

I pity the show that comes after black sails

My Toasty Toast

"This is not what I wanted." Silver says that to Flint, and Flint said almost the exact same thing to Gates as he strangled him.

cosmotron

Couple facts about the finale. The writers say that last shot of Madi and Silver standing at the place where Flint trained Silver is the closest that the two of them are together physically and emotionally ever again. The last person “Mark Read” is actually a real person named “Mary Read,” who disguised herself as a man. Mary Read and Anne Bonnie actually end up together in real life, and become a more infamous duo than Jack and Anne. Jack does sail with them, but the two women end up being in charge of Jack and their crew for the next couple of years.

My Toasty Toast

This is such a rewatchable show that I'm glad it's not my first time anymore. I can hone in on so many details and really appreciate the care that went into this phenomenal production

Isaac

My friends, it has been a pleasure. I will be cramming your comments like there's a test

Isaac

My favorite show ever. Flint is possibly my single favorite fictional character.

Drew

THE best show I have ever seen. Toby Stephens is THE most underrated actor alive today. That speech flint gives at the end is one of the most incredible monologues in anything I’ve seen. His performance in this should have won him so many awards. Sadly this show goes so unrecognized by the general public. I would love for you guys to make a special video on YouTube just recommending this show to people. Thanks so much for reacting to it.

Drew

Oh, and I think it's so fascinating to have a character like Silver become so much more villainous because he opens himself up to love and community. Very often characters become villains after the loss of those things. But Silver gained them, and descends into villainy in his determination to keep them.

cosmotron

That last shot of Silver and Madi doesn't paint a picture of them living happily ever after, which is interesting. It's quite a contrast to how joyfully they reunited earlier in this season. They're standing apart, and in an interview Jon Steinberg talked about that being a deliberate choice. Even if they get back together, that gap is always going to be between them. They will never have the easy trust and love that they once did. I'm pleased you picked up on that ambiguity there as well!

cosmotron

Flint in season one talked about Odysseus. "At the end of his journey he was told to take an oar and travel inland, until someone mistook that oar for a shovel. And it was there he would find peace." I always think about that moment, watching him walk across the farming field toward Thomas.

cosmotron

Well, for everyone that watched this show for the first time along with them, how do you feel at the end? Final favorite characters? Any other specific thoughts?

cosmotron

Damn I’ve only seen the first episode. I need to catch up.

Jack SV

I remember in an interview on the Fathom's Deep podcast, Jon Steinberg said it was very important for Max to not compromise herself here. She has had to do that over and over and over again, and so for her to not do that here and instead find an alternative is very deliberate, and I love it.

cosmotron

"Until we are nothing more than monsters in the stories they tell their children." What a line. That whole speech is incredible, but that last line in particualr, with the knowledge that Treasure Island was literally a story written for children...yeah, it hurts and is so good at the same time. As are the words Flint says afterward, telling Silver that someday "the comfort will grow stale" and he will be left searching for meaning. In the Treasure Island book, there are rumors of a "curse" on Flint's treasure, and I like to think of these words as that curse.

cosmotron

This is it, guys. It's been an honor to follow this reactions with you all. Once again, thank you to everyone who recommended this show over the years and didn't give up on it. You're like angels with no wings. (So, like a person?!) Yes.

Gustavo

I was wondering if you'd catch that moment with Silver being a callback to his introduction. The dialogue is very similar too. "Are you a fucking coward?"/"I'm just the cook." Amazing stuff.

cosmotron

John and Robert understood the assignment that Dan and Dave didn’t.

My Toasty Toast

Vordeel’s Black Sails edits got me through the grief haha

My Toasty Toast

Oooh I hadn't seen this one, or I would have included it in the masterdoc I made!

cosmotron

This still makes me cackle. It's too perfect.

cosmotron

As per Cosmo's request, here's my entire feelings towards Black Sails summed up in one photo. I thought of it in the middle of watching the scene happen for the first time, and now everyone including the girls can see it in all it's glory: https://imgur.com/C1ePmeF

TeaDrinker3000

Thank you, girls, for the best reactions I've seen to one of my favorite shows!! Your emotional maturity, keen insight into television plots, and deep love for characters and their development were very much appreciated. Also, you guys guessing Thomas was alive so early on?!?!? Crazy. Can't wait to see your reaction and hear your final thoughts.

Kaitlyn

glad you enjoyed it this much! similarly i really enjoyed the community under the replies as well, it was nice learning trivia and history tidbits here and there. felt like a continuation of the wire community in a way

Sebastian

Meeting you through LM's reactions to this show has legitimately been the best thing that has ever happened to me. I love you!

Kaitlyn

Haha we have the same grieving process.

My Toasty Toast

Here we go one last time, I'm gonna miss this. Thanks to all who pushed for this show

HenryM

I’m so happy you watched and enjoyed this show as much as you did! And it’s been really great getting to talk with you and everyone else on discord. ❤️ Also, you better repost that meme you made so Lola and Milena can properly enjoy it lmao

cosmotron

I know you finished the show a week ago but if you’re still in need of TikTok’s and edits this is one I watched a lot back when I first finished black sails in 2017 by a YouTuber named Vordeel. https://youtu.be/kFf_AmnebDA?si=nwH1HTgf5x1pBWsl

Between healing the part of my heart that was broken ever since Game Of Thrones, providing me with the necessary push to finally start my own Reaction Channel, and inadvertently helping me meet the girl I'm going to marry one day, this was without question my favourite reaction series from you two 🙂 Thank you so much one last time to everyone's encouragement since I started my written reviews during season 1, and in particular to Cosmo who was and still is a huge inspiration to follow my passions with her insanely detailed reviews. And finally, a thank you to Kaitlyn, who has made me happier in three months than I've ever been in my life. I would rather swim in stormy seas with you, than sail calm waters with anyone else. ❤️

I’m not ready for this to end. I’m so so glad you watched it. I knew you would love it, and I’m so happy to have re lived this show with you both. You can never watch it for the first time again, but the rewatches enrich the experience.

Crazy to think it went from Milena thinking this was "torture porn" when she watched a couple episodes previous to these reactions and now it's one of your favourites, haha. Come a long way. Really awesome you guys love it so much!

I made this masterdoc which contains links to the Fathom’s Deep podcast, fan edits on YouTube, a Spotify playlist of my creation with songs that make me think of the show, and some video essays. In particular I recommend watching Rowan Ellis’s video on why this show has a better ending and narrative structure than Game of Thrones. All that and more linked in this document! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UL54nsV1dUIodlXdGwNspabPSqTrf3SHFei-H_fY3UQ/edit?usp=sharing

So glad that we got the opportunity to share this Black Sails journey with y'all! Truly one of the most unappreciated shows in recent memory. It's incredibly difficult to improve upon the story of a classic like Treasure Island, but this show did it to near perfection! Now, regarding the ending, the more I watch the finale the more I believe that John Silver is lying and that he killed Flint. Silver was too smart and too desperate to allow Flint to live with the knowledge of the location of the treasure. I also don't believe Flint would give up the fight unless he absolutely knew Silver was honest about Thomas, which he wouldn't be certain about until he actually saw Thomas in Savannah. But, then again, there's 20 years between Black Sails and Treasure Island so who knows what happened next! Hopefully, we can get your thoughts on Treasure Island one day, whether it be the book or one of the film adaptations!
