2024-04-07 11:16:57 +0000 UTCThere is no "mistiming" of a comedic moment for me, it's either a good and interesting moment or not. Knuckle's and Pouf's scenes are interesting and serious, and not in spite of their ridiculousness. Dignity is most often lost in the most dramatic moments, and I appreciate when film doesn't romanticise that aspect of life away, like many do. HxH is way better at this than most anime, esp ones like FMAB, where the "comedy" is criminally terrible.

2024-04-06 23:40:36 +0000 UTCWell im not saying it has to be all dark but there’s difference between mistiming it and diminishing the weight of a scene (think marvel quips) and blending it well (look at top hbo shows). Hxh doesn’t always do it well, some of the pouf stuff especially later on, and even here, there’s a reason they didn’t even take knuckles situation seriously. It could have been threaded better.

2024-04-06 13:21:51 +0000 UTCTo truly capture the darkness of any serious situation, one has to be able to see an element of comedy in it. Real life, even in it's darkest moments, is never completely serious and Togashi has a really good sense for that.

2024-04-06 01:09:58 +0000 UTCWhile this anime does have an issue occasionally with comedic beats being mistimed and misused during serious moments, I don’t think knuckle admitting that he wasn’t that close to shoot is one of them. I think that’s reinforcing how pure hearted he is, that in this life and death mission he took this big risk for someone he didn’t previously even like that much. I think his compassion is just enhanced during the mission because they don’t know if they are getting out or not. Just like how shoot’s courage shot up as well. That being said other aspects of the scene was bit silly and maybe could have used slight constraint on the tonal whiplash. The animation was popping off though.
