The Wire 4x10 Reaction

The Wire 4x10 Reaction

Comments

The way characters both big and small weave in and out of seasons is insane, the attention to detail is like nothing else. The Wire is so special, truly.

TeaDrinker3000

Fun fact about Officer Walker, if you go back to season 2, when the police are about to make the bust with the prostitutes (when McNulty ended up having sex with them lol), Walker was the overzealous cop wanting them to bust down the door and Bunk told him to calm down.

M Salam

Girls FYI the final episode of season 4 is 78 minutes long, in case you were planning to film the final two episodes in the same day I thought you'd appreciate the heads up.

TeaDrinker3000

That one's for the reaction hall of fame. The way Namond's mom reduced her to pure, inarticulate rage with two lines.

Mike Conlin

Very true, just a suggestion at the end at the day

lolenseu

34:42 OMG 😱 this just keeps going 😂😂 my favorite part of the reaction

Thomas

Shit I totally forgot the last episode is that long!

TeaDrinker3000

Would that be fair on them? They might find those two episodes mentally and emotionally draining. The final episode itself is 78 minutes long. Seems like a big ask, tbh.

Chidi.

is there any chance of the final 2 eps being seen at the same time, i believe the final 2 should be seen in 1 sitting-- the reactions can come at their appropriate times but i do think they should be viewed together

The director of the episode on that last scene: "We moved the real actor out and moved the dummy in. The editorial staff, they didn’t see the change, because the dummy looked that much like the real actor. All of a sudden, the foot is stomping him in the face and the mouth, and the head is jerking. The writers were freaking out because it looked like we were actually stomping the poor guy. It was a beautiful special effect. That articulated dummy that we made of him, it worked. Even they admitted that they had to cut down what I did. My cut was a little bit too much. I think it was longer with the stomping of the head. They shortened it. It was hard to watch."

@Zach - I'm trying to figure out what you're referring to... The only thing that comes to mind is something in the season finale.

Chidi.

You are great at speculating. Lola basically predicted the Michael story line starting from 4.2. For the second episode in a row, you both end your outro with very sad faces. At the risk of saying a sexist “Smile!”, perhaps do very fake happy faces as your ending. 😀 (and what other reactors read the fucking “No Child Left Behind’ legislation as part of their presentation. Jeez.) You guys rock.

Joe Gaspard

Shout out to Robert Chew, who not only gives a terrific performance as Prop Joe, but was the acting coach for the kids playing our core four this year.

Mike

"At least you got a leash."

When Namond talks about not wanting to go to baby booking, the way he looks so scared... These young boys did such a fantastic job acting, it's so hard to believe you're not just watching reality itself unfold. Then again, in many ways, we are...

Michael’s storyline is so beautifully written and yet so tragic. I love the subtle writing, where majority of the time they are showing us not telling us. Like they never flat out say it, but his body language, the distrust of overly friendly males like Cutty, it all tells a story and then we get hit with Chris’s reaction to it all and things get even more sad and tragic. I love Milena’s love for Namond and how she didn’t expect to love him as much as she does because I was the same way. It took a minute for me to warm up to Namond as well but after seeing who his mother was, everything started to make sense and I just wanted to protect him. He acts tough because he believes that’s how he should be but he is honestly the sweetest kid and I love how Bunny is starting to see through the charade with him. Seriously what kind of Mother gets mad at her 14 year old son for being scared to go into Junior lockup??!! She’s awful. RIP to Little Kevin, he really didn’t deserve what happened to him. It also never fails to make me smile just to see how gentle Carver has become with handling kids, like Prez, he technically should not be around children again after the things he’s done but for plot purposes, I just love to see it, lol.

Finally got to watch the reaction. I'm so torn because these next three episodes are going to be arguably the best of the entire series, but I feel second-hand guilt from seeing the girls get so upset. The Wire is so upsetting in a way that has no catharsis, because it's all reality. Even if every single character got everything they ever wanted with no harm done to them, it doesn't stop the fact that this happens everyday to so many kids, and always will unless there's a titanic overhaul to the government.

TeaDrinker3000

I watched a documentary before on the epidemic of r*pe in male prisons. Given the U.S.'s insanely high prison population, prison r*pe accounts for more than half of all r*pe cases in the entire country, generally speaking (and ofc based on estimates, as reported cases both in and out of the prison system does not represent the amount of actual cases by a substantial margin). Barbaric does not begin to describe it. You think it's hard trying to talk about sexual assault against men in general, trying to garner public sympathy for prisoners is another thing altogether. Even just the casual way people will say "well, he'll get what's coming to him in prison..." is completely disgusting and indefensible. Survivors of SA in the prison complex truly have no hope.

Milena's 'Try Not To Sleep Challenge (Impossible)'

This is the reaction when the Lord of the Rings movies win a poll requiring them all to be watched in a single week

Doug

Ohhhhh I'm definitely using that as a meme template for when they react to Hereditary

TeaDrinker3000

I would've chosen this as the thumbnail: https://imgur.com/n1ejhRq

I'll second that belief that Chris's abuse was in prison. Also backed up by another small detail that I cannot mention at this time due to spoilers.

Zach

It is so refreshing to finally see people who not only understand the meaning and full emotional impact of Chris killing Bug's dad, but also have the shock over Chris's outburst and the satisfaction of the guy's death completely overpowered by sadness for Chris

Lucas Stefanic

Same, I suspect it was when he was a juvenile in the justice system.

Chidi.

I agree it's not clear about where Chris might have been abused, but I still think it was something at a young age for 2 reasons: as an adult he's a pretty decent physical size and thus more likely to be able to defend himself, and also it would have been a key factor in explaining how he ended up how he is now (remorseless murderer).

Craig Manning

such an underrated character

RH

It’s incredible really that such a brutal moment makes Chris seem more human. Even Snoop was taken aback by his sheer brutality. It's testament to the writing and acting performances. Michael was ashamed to say what Bug’s dad (Devar) did to him but Chris figured it out straight away. No dialogue involved. Brilliant. I was never sure whether Chris was sexually abused at home, in prison or elsewhere. Watching it with you I’m now convinced it happened in prison. Partly because he acknowledged Devar’s comment about what some men need to do in prison to meet their sexual needs, but more interestingly because of the brief conversation where Naymond reveals to Carver his fears about being raped in baby booking. It’s not directly related to Chris’ story but I suspect it’s the writers subtle and indirect way of planting the seed of what may have happened to Chris in the prison system. And you’re right to worry about Naymond - either he’ll be dead in a few years or he’ll end up in jail and probably face the same humiliation and abuse that Chris likely endured.

Chidi.

Chris delivering justice, we love it

Karabo

one of my favorite Wire quotes. "World going one way, people the other yo." -Poot

Klein Santana

It's a marvel how this show can make you care so much about so many individuals with not even much time and just little snippets of scenes spread thoughout. To think of everything that's happened so far with the kids this season has been shown in only 10 hours with less than half of that (1/3?) actually focused on the actual corner boys, but we're ready to die for them :)

Craig Manning

Bunny’s kindness breaks my heart, his words “they see right through us (they know we aren’t helping them)” kill me The look Michael gives his mom at the end of the episode sticks with me, he’s smiling but he does pity her. She’s really just a woman who lives in his home. He ultimately doesn’t regret what he chose to do Ironic that Namond’s mom would go to see the stage version of the Color Purple and still behave the way she does

space colon

This is probably my favorite season of this show (and among my favorite for TV in general), which is pretty remarkable considering it has some of the most vile characters ever put to screen. Officer Walker, Officer Colicchio, Naymond's mother, Herc (with minor parts for Lt. Marimow, the man that preys on Bubbs, the superintendent of schools, and Bug's father). It's basically a perfect season of television and it feels like I hate nearly half the cast lmao

🥳🥳🥳

TeaDrinker3000

Only 12 hours more to go!

HenryM

Off topic but can I bribe you with a cute drawing of Killua or something to get more than one scary movie reaction for this Halloween?

Orr Malus

I've to wait till tonight to watch the full reaction 😭😭😭 But the wait will be worth it!

TeaDrinker3000

Lola's face in that thumbnail.... Well, you did say in the previous episode: "I need him dead, fast. Anyone who kills him will be my favourite character." So, there it is. :-)
