Violet Evergarden Episode 1 Reaction

Violet Evergarden Episode 1 Reaction

Comments

if you girls want to experience a really emotional anime, that is equally as painful as it is beautiful and unforgettable i really suggest watching A Silent Voice, it’s an anime movie that is loved by many many people. Plenty of reaction channels have seen it and i would loveeeeee for you guys to watch it one day (or when you finish Frieren and it’s time for a new anime I’m still pushing the “Banana Fish is one of the best short anime ever” agenda so pls react to it🥺🥺🥺)

sleepymiffi

violet Evergarden is just a better anime. Hits you n the emotions hard damn near every episode, the visuals are damn near top 5 of all anime's, the overall plot is beautifully encouraging and sad, character development was masterfully done, and it's replay ability is very high. .... Long story short, people favor this show a lot more than "ranking of Kings" for a good reason, not because of something "insane" as you mentioned.

Josh

You should watch Your lie in April!

Ricardo Pérez Ovalle

Please ranking of kings next

Steve

Chainsawman despite revolving around a main male character, has some amazingly well written female characters who colour most of the plot points with beautiful depth. Only one season out at the moment so you guys should wait a bit until more of it is adapted. Keep up the reactions, love it!

Harrison Locke

@Doug If you want them to see something awful, I'm all for The 100 season finale or The Last Airbender movie. There are so many clicks on YouTube, because many fans want to see how others are upset about a bad implementation, but Violet Evergarden lacked the explosiveness for that.

Robert H.

What my girlfriend threw at me today: Nana. I started it and couldn't stop and laughed so much. It has that Fullmetal Alchemist humor with over drawing the scenes in that simpler style. But now I have to lie down in bed with her, so I'll have to watch it again tomorrow. So for me a clear recommendation to Lola and Milena, especially for Lola the series is perfect as often she addressed Sasha with Annie. With Nana she can not say much wrong :D

Robert H.

Tanya is so accepting I just forget and just go with it. Damn you Being X😆

INFJ-T Tyrone

I thought about A Place Further Than The Universe but Super Cub edged it out.

INFJ-T Tyrone

One of the biggest joys I've had in discovering anime was discovering the slice of life genre 😅

TeaDrinker3000

@space1999 The light novel is completely different. Violet is a 17 year old girl who carries a magical battle axe called Witchcraft and carries countless weapons in a suitcase. She is less naive and shows a more adult attitude. In one chapter, she fights a religious cult that is planning mass suicide. In the process, she saves a demigod named Lux, who then becomes her colleague in the company. Generally because the anime and the light novel are so different, the controversial episode, which is almost 1:1 from a chapter in the third book, doesn't work. The second movie doesn't work for me either, as they try to bring the anime to the same ending as the light novel, but the Violet in the source is so much different from the Violet in the anime.

Robert H.

I'll plug the comedy/slice-of-life anime Bocchi the Rock and it's all-female main cast again. It wasn't life-changing or anything but I enjoyed it! Also thanks for starting Violet Evergarden, it's been on my to-watch list for years and this was the motivation I needed to pick it up finally.

Nonam

Violet Evergarden it is a great anime, full of emotions, a drink of beauty that will captivate you.

David Brown

insane how ranking of kings lost to this sob fest

ReactorHero

A Place Further Than The Universe is missing. And Tanya the Evil and Ascendance of a Bookworm are in my opinion the only really good Isekai anime. I really would like to see them to react to them in the future. And both are female lead but I would say, that Tanya is more like 50/50, if you know what I mean :D

Robert H.

My wammen characters

Lil Don075

Its gonna happen no matter what, people are so selfish and cant help themselves smh

Andres

(spoilery post) I want to see them react to the second movie- it could be a rare chance to have LM pan something they watch. I know some people like that movie but I have a very strong suspicion that LM will absolutely hate the controversial character and how that story unfolds and the troubling dynamic. Seeing them watch something and really dislike it would be entertaining since they usually watch solid shows, and that movie is pretty awful.

Doug

Shows Blacks Sails (Women characters on the level of the Walking Dead) Jessica Jones (Full of good women characters) My Name (Korean action) The Americans (Outstanding female co-lead) His Dark Materials (The great Ruth Wilson)

Tyrone Tyrone

Wow, almost 60 comments already? I've seen the first two episodes so far and the aesthetic is stunning

TeaDrinker3000

Madoka Magica is another great anime with a female main character and a female cast, also very short

Sebox

I have to agree with Robert and I’m also gonna be much harsher, the second movie (the sequel one) just spits in the face of everything the series stood for. In my opinion it does ruin the show, the direction they forced the story to is downright terrible. I think there was a reason as of why the studio changed things from the novel while adapting it into an anime + they didn’t even have in mind to produce a movie at all when the series ended. The OVA is fine, the side-story movie is also fine, the sequel movie is irritatingly bad aside for a bunch of scenes. Personally I hope they never watch it, and if they do I hope they like it (I absolutely don’t think they will but who knows). For now we should just let them enjoy the series, which already has a perfect ending for the story, then they’ll decide.

Sebox

Frieren is coming soon, that is female centric (the titular character is female).

Andres

Anime Shows The Promise Neverland (Season1 only. And how can anybody not love Emma) Magica Madoka (It's not what you would think) Gunslinger Girl (Old but short) The Garden of Sinners Yona of the Dawn Black Lagoon ( Revy is so feminine...NOT😄❤️) Saga of Tanya the Evil (She's an atheist who believes she can outsmart God) Super Cub (A big change of pace and so calming)

INFJ-T Tyrone

Anime movies Alita Battle Angel Encanto

INFJ-T Tyrone

The first episode had me struggling to care about the characters, it does kind of feel emotionally manipulative with music in almsot every scene I do wonder if the light novel it’s based on approaches the dramatic scenes with more nuance, honestly the only good light novel adaptations I’ve seen in anime are Spice and Wolf, Shiki and Kino’s journey The premise is honestly interesting though on paper

space colon

definitely giving me Thorfinn vibes

Danny

Lycoris Recoil is a good and short anime and have 2 female main charakters

Basti

I really love Chihayafuru as well! Sadly I don’t see it come up much on reaction channels, but I would love to watch it together again with LM

RPSiege

The music in Violet Evergarden is a different level. I love it so much.

Camzeee

Same for me. It just felt like "Sad Backstory - The Show". Not much really happens, its just retelling of sad stories without showing much. Watched it until the end and don't quite understand what people love about it.

Daihatschi

Yeah I didn't really get into it either. Tried like 2 or 3 episodes. Will try again with the girls for sure.

Camzeee

For me (at least at the time) it came off as…almost emotionally manipulative? Like instead of being immersed in it I could just feel the writing trying to get me emotional. Which is weird for me because I’m typically a very easy crier. But it could’ve just been the headspace I was in at the time.

cosmotron

Felt the same way—somehow it felt too polished to be emotionally immersive. Maybe it’ll feel less clinical this time around. I already enjoyed this first episode more rewatching it with them than when I first watched on my own.

AE

Please watch Andor

Jesse S

I tried watching this once and wasn’t able to get into it. Maybe I’ll have to try it again. It’s very pretty, but the emotional stuff wasn’t working for me for whatever reason (at least at the time).

cosmotron

My favourite anime series with a female lead is Claymore, it came out more than 10 years ago but it's amazing and you 2 would love it, so I highly recommend it.

JT

I agree about the second movie missing the mark but I wouldn’t mind them watching it. I think it gets as many things right as it does wrong, at the very least it opens an interesting discussion. Either way I really hope they watch the first one

My Toasty Toast

I would add Bocchi the Rock here too

My Toasty Toast

Also female protagonist which they are looking for

Omar O

Halt and Catch Fire is phenomenal. Adore that cast.

Farbod

Halt and Catch Fire is a great show with female leads but I believe you've both seen it already. Chihayafuru is my favorite anime and it also has a tremendous female. GLOW is another good option. Princess Jellyfish a very fun, short, and weird anime option Top of the Lake is also a choice.

Luis

using rot13 to hide spoilers for the sake of discussion! you can translate with https://rot13.com/ "vf tvyoreg qrnq?" jryy tbq v jvfu ur jnf, ohg zna gur ynfg zbivr ernyyl fcbvyrq zl rawblzrag bs gur fubj!!!! JUL NER GURL ZNEEVRQ !!!!

beans

Kaguya sama is both

Omar O

Honestly a lot more excited than I was initially. I'm very glad you guys are pretty engaged with the show already. The only reason I did not vote for this show was because I was scared it was too short. Rewatching this first episode with you guys made me remember how I felt watching the show and now I'm happy this won the poll.

Komikall

Don't forget my Avatar girls, they run the show🥺

Wallas

To clear that up: Netflix funded the production almost entirely, which is why it's a Netflix Original, even though the story is actually based on a novel. Whether now the subtitles of Crunchyroll or Netflix are better, I do not know. But funny story: There are two Eng Dubs of Vinland Saga season 2, namely from Netflix and Crunchyroll. I guess they couldn't agree and made two completely separate dubs.

Robert H.

Chihayafuru has one of the best female protagonists. The unique blend of Classical Japanese poetry, romance, and sports make it a one of one.

Luis

Yeah it’s frustrating Even the Shonen with strong female characters tend to have them either follow a man, obsess over a man or become victims/die

space colon

They would love Kaguya-Sama!!!

TDawg

there are few shoune animes with good female characters, some recommendations: madoka magica, kaguya-sama, Spy X Family, Yur Lie In April...but I personally don't think they are good shows for reaction

Wallas

@Robert H. I can understand that opinion, even though personally it didn’t have that effect on me. I just thought I’d at least let them know they exist. I’m not even sure if they want to tackle reacting to a long movie and edit it down.

Sacha

The event was really unbelievably horrible, just imagining what the employees in the company experienced makes my stomach cramp. What I find interesting is the story of the doctor who nursed the arsonist back to health for months, spent the night in the hospital and thus neglected his family, only for him to be confronted with his deeds in court and held accountable.

Robert H.

And we ALL know which episode to not do this for! 😄 hopefully one day (maybe for LM) I’ll watch a VE reaction series that doesn’t have this problem

Sacha

Just wrote about that awful incident in the yt comments. I’ll never forget watching Teeaboo react to the series years ago and him looking up the staff list to look for the art director for him to realise that they died in the fire. It was incredibly somber moment that I won’t forget. Him congratulating their work to only realise he’ll never see their work again. It’s beyond words…

Sacha

This premise is interesting, this feels like a better more in depth Chobits without the sexualization of the female characters Adore any story where a character struggling to comprehend/handle emotions is put in charge of helping others with emotional matters Just don’t know if I was able to find much care for the characters this episode

space colon

I'm against the last movie. In general, the anime series is complete and the movies wanted to add something, while the last movie, in my opinion, nullifies the main reason why the anime is so good. They can watch it if they want, but it made the story for me less good. For the same reason no one is asking for a second season of Usagi Drop, because the source continued past a certain point, which was a perfect ending, and then the author tore everything down.

Robert H.

Okay you guys, please make sure to not comment things like "I can't wait until you reach episode X!" or "episode X will definitely make you cry!" because I noticed that a lot of people say these things to people who are reacting to Violet Evergarden and it really ruins the reaction because the people will always be prepared for something big to happen when watching the episode.

Markub El Jaden

Second on this! Was thinking about Kaguya-Sama throughout all of Spy x Family

space colon

The anime is very emotional and has a lot of very good stories to tell (though one is quite controversial, so I'm curious to hear what you guys have to say about that, I personally always skip the episode during a rewatch). In general, the anime plays a lot with words. The work that Violet now wants to do is called Auto Memory Doll, where Doll is something artificial, without a heart. The capital Leiden is German for suffering, the country is called Leidenschaftlich, which on the other hand means passionate. In general, many places, cities and people are named after English, French, Spanish, Italian and German terms that describe emotions or expressions. What I would also like to mention is that the anime was animated by Kyoto Animation, with one of the most famous animation studios in Japan with very good working conditions and the principle of "It's not released until it's finished.", allowing you to press pause at any time and watch a painting. Unfortunately, Kyoto Animation was also victim of one of the deadliest massacres in Japan since the end of World War II. In 2019, a mentally ill man entered the building and doused a great many people with gasoline and set them on fire. A great many people died, even more are injured and traumatized, and many of them participated in Violet Evergarden. To honor their work, I think it is important that they are not forgotten.

Robert H.

Lil bit of housekeeping for the series. There’s an OVA that should be watched between episodes 4 and 5. You can find it on Netflix under the name ‘Violet Evergarden: Special’. It’s pretty important to watch as events in episode 5 will make more sense with the OVA story before it. Also there are two movies that follow the events of the 13 episode series. First one being ‘Violet Evergarden - Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll’ which is 1hr 30mins. And then the last instalment (the finale) in the series is ‘Violet Evergarden: The Movie’ which is 2hr 20mins. Now I know there will be a debate on if it’s worth it to watch these but personally I adore both these films, especially the last film which serves as an amazing finale to the series. It’s up to you two of course in the end but I thought I’d at least let you both know. Also please spoiler tag in the comments for the films (and series) contents if you do wanna debate! 😂

Sacha

I really enjoyed your reactions, violet is a very good show

Gabriel Toledo

@Isaac i will i just haven't had an entire day off in weeks, just some shifts free and i have shit to do and i need to rest when i just have one of the shifts free. i finally have a day off this thursday so maybe i'll watch then. as of now i just have time to watch some weekly episodes while i eat between the lunch shift and the dinner shift 💀💀 my life has been hectic since july but in a few weeks the work will be much easier at last.

sand_fl

Ya'll just gonna forget my girl Korra like that? 💔

Andor

red haired guy is zeke VA btw

Mahni Alizadeh

So excited for this! Just an FYI there’s an OVA you need to watch before episode 5. Also, Violet is Mikasa’s voice, and Hodgins is Zeke’s voice. Rewatching the show with you is going to emotionally wreck me when the final episode of AoT airs in a few weeks

My Toasty Toast

I recommend Kaguya-sama, is one of the best RomComedies and I'm sure you're gonna love it!

RepliCant

yall are reacting to so much good stuff right now mannnn this is a golden era for my LM fandom

Mahni Alizadeh

love this show so much. so beautifully animated too

Mahni Alizadeh

86 has a co-female lead you two would absolutely LOVE!

Toidleboy

A Place Further Than the Universe.

Robert H.

Feels like its been ages since I first watched, but I remember it being visually and narratively beautiful, going to enjoy going through it again with these reactions.

Alex

Join in!!

Isaac

Classroom of the elite or Overlord are definitely different from shows they usually watch

Kevinsog24

I'd love to see some shows that are entirely different from the usual LM Reactions shows- maybe a comedy or romance, something out of left field.

Doug

well, still haven't been able to watch ep 1 on my own so i'll have to wait a few days. but really exited ngl. this has been on my watchlist for a good while.

sand_fl

The protagonist that was promised!

Isaac

You're gonna love this <3 so excited
