The Wire 3x05 Reaction

hopefully it doesn’t get blocked again

The Wire 3x05 Reaction

Comments

maybe not heroes in a sense of virtue (def not string), but they do have sort of heroic ambition. two of the few characters trying to take on the whole system and change the game to solve their problem instead of playing by the rules

medvezhonok

They don’t even LIKE Stringer or Avon, let alone love them. They just really enjoy the characters and their storyline. Bodie IS beloved, but that’s because they empathise with him more, cuz we were introduced to him when he’s like 15/16. If we’d gotten baby Avon and Stringer, they’d probably feel more towards them.

Wanda Did Nothing Wrong

I agree that if there was a hero in this show, Its Bunny Colvin and another officer I won't name for spoilers sake. He's trying to find a solution that actually helps people. Stringer is a POS. He's out for himself.

Stringer got everyone to sit at the same table and stop having wars over corners. Colvin is not acting out of pure altruism because (a) his superiors forced him to lower the crime stats or else, (b) he said he's very close to retirement so there are no real consequences for him anyway, and (c) his pastor friend pointed out that in the long run Hamsterdam is only a solution to Colvin's problems. I'm not saying that one character is more moral than the other. I'm pointing out, absent of justification, their actions benefited the most people.

Herc and Carver are bad guys. Avon, Stringer and Bodie are beloved by them. Pretty easy to sus out. Want a diagram?

Lil Don075

Ridiculous.

Lil Don075

Heroes? In what universe haha? Stringer's naivety and wickedness didn't benefit anyone.

Aj

Key difference between the two is Colvin is trying to change the system he's in to benefit the people, whilst Stringer is doing it only out of fear of death or jail.

Kya Colosseum

what is my blud waffling about

Darrach

Hot take: Stringer and Colvin are the actual heroes of the story. While the other characters are in a cat and mouse game that never goes anywhere, Stringer and Colvin's actions benefited both sides.

Orr Malus

Well it’s not actually, I just said the ending is great, no mention of anything specific. Nothing is spoiled, just my honest opinion of the episodes last scene. You commenting ACTUALLY makes it look worse than what it actually is. Also it’s pretty much the same thing as when people tell them they can’t wait until they get to a certain episode or season and I didn’t see you commenting on all their posts talking about spoilers. Lastly they filmed this episode way earlier and most likely already watched episode 8, so I doubt my minor comment changed anything for them. Thank you and have a good day.

If anyone is curious, the podcast Reply All put out a few good episodes about policing statistics Compstat and it's origins NYC, successes and failures. Episodes are called "The Crime Machine"

/Jon Snow accent "You're not guilty of your father's crimes"

Stating specific future episodes you're excited about is a covert spoiler in my book. Stating specific parts of future episodes you're excited about is an overt spoiler in my book.

the way jimmy looks at stringer as his destined rival, the moriarty to his sherlock, is always so funny. just the theatrics of him confronting stringer in a printing shop is so melodramatic and in character

Sebastian

Such hypocrisy. Real strange...

Lil Don075

An almost 80 minute vid and we ain't even into the REAL good stuff?? Mannnn this is gonna be one of the BEST series y'all have ever reacted to I swear

TeaDrinker3000

Them judging carcetti for littlefingers sins makes me so sad

Cole

"Play the next immediately" , oh yes ladies now we are in the territory of peak The Wire, put your seatbelts on, helmets in, keep your feet in the ride and away we goooooo!!!!!

Karabo

@9:53 the way Milena says she's invested in the criminal world even shows itself here when she quotes Avon with out realizing , The police are currently a little slow, a little late and that's all it takes to lose in The Game

Karabo

You're correct that the reason why the missing gun is such a high priority is that it makes the police look bad. That's a recurrent theme in the series. People making decisions based on what will make them look better, tougher, etc instead of what will actually do the most good or cause the least harm.

Jeffrey Miller

So true! There’s a scene later with the two of them that has one of my favorite shots in the whole series (involves a roof top and beer cans)

space colon

Not even just friends, but that they clearly had a mentor relationship with him ‘breaking him in’. As soon as you find out that Jimmy’s role model was Bunny it speaks so much to both how Jimmy became the type of police that he is and who Bunny is.

Jay Craig

Not that every episode before this wasn't great, BUT we are now at the highest level of greatness from here on out, the rest of this season and ALL of S4 are peak television. I particularly can't wait to see your reactions to next episode and episode 8, episode 8 has literally the best ending to an episode ever!!!!!

Nyeisha Melvina Clark

Yeah that scene was great, Stringer was constantly talking, carrying the entire conversation, trying to get ANYTHING out of Marlo. And Marlo just stands there stone faced and easily wins the exchange.

Doug

Wire reactions from yall literally one of my favorite forms of entertainment right now 😂👍🏾

Thomas

They picked the perfect point of the season to start binging

Ellis hayes

Yes omfg too good

Love that there are so many reformed criminals acting on the show! Giving everyone in Baltimore a voice and chance to contribute to this show is what sets it apart Like how both Stringer and Bunny want to challenge and reform the systems they're in. Most characters in leadership positions usually have a prominent character opposite them contrasting their decisions. Like Lola’s point that the law is Avon’s undoing and the streets are Stringer’s Fits too well that Bunny and Mcnulty are friends lol Edit: I think when watching Cutty it helps to look at a character like Bodie. Bodie has shown empathy but he doesn’t know how to express it and will set aside any kind of feeling to do what he thinks he should, would absolutely hit a woman. Same with Cutty (especially coked up) the camera repeatedly lingers on him and his reaction to the dealer getting beat down, he looks away and keeps his distance

space colon

Also I love the way Marlo has one face to face meeting with Stringer, takes one look at him and immediately sizes him up perfectly as not being a ‘soldier’ and makes the snap decision to tool up for war.

Jay Craig

Season 3 is so good, damn. Whenever I re-watch it, I'm reminded why it's my favourite season. I love seasons 1, 2 and 4 to death, but something about S3 just does it for me.

Aj

First few episodes of each season are always really deliberate and slow, and even though they’re enjoyable sometimes it’s still such a tease that you begin to want them to get to it, but then you get to like episode 5 / 6 and when things start heating up you’re so glad they spent all that time building it up properly, cos it’s what makes it hit so hard
