This show just makes me want to go back and play the game again for some reason lol. I’ve seen the entire show and it’s basically a great advertisement for playing the game.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but this story is set in 2076, and Night City is on the coast of California. Corporations openly control everything after governments around the world collapsed. There were four world altering wars that were all fought between corporations, clawing for control over tech and resources. Body modification began as a result of these wars, as they leaned into darker and darker solutions for the problems they were causing. Eventually, soldiers would come home after being modified during war, and were usually forgotten about, starting the early onset of future cyberpsychos, because of all the modded soldiers with PTSD, a collapsing social structure, and/or a lack of appreciation. And once it became common to see modified people around in society, it became appealing for civilians to start getting implants as well (especially once corporations began the market for it). With the collapse of the internet, the advancement of AI, lack of governments, the rise of tech implants, and several nuclear solutions, you might understand why crime is so natural for someone like David... he never really had a chance. Even if he does everything right, it's going to be under the boot of oppression. Night City is fully available to explore in the game this show is based off, and one of the most appealing aspects of watching this show is seeing locations from the game used for this show, when we were never required to go to these places in the game.

CASTLEVANIA YES

Very excited for you guys to watch the rest, especially the finale. :)

Yes! That’s such a good show. And it’s not long - the most episodes in a season is like 10 20min episodes. Great dialogue and characters and gorgeous animation.

cosmotron

WOULD LOVE THAT!

You guys should watch Castlevania after Cyberpunk.

What captivates me about Cyberpunk is its interplay between the city and individual dreams. Much like the elusive concept of the American dream, the series pushes its characters to their very limits, compelling them to overcome their circumstances. However, beneath the surface, this aspiration appears contrived, akin to a meticulously crafted illusion designed by corporate entities to lure diligent individuals into their fold. They ultimately become mere cogs in the relentless machinery of the system to keep the system going. Concurrently, a growing segment of society finds itself marginalized, succumbing to the clutches of addiction and brutality. They are trapped within a reality that not only denies them opportunities but also ruthlessly plunges them further into despair's depths. There are those who strive to extract joy from life's simplest pleasures, exemplified by characters such as Rebecca. Others, however, simply drown in the blood of the dead's dreams. They evade their pasts, avoiding the painful reckoning it entails, all the while seeking to numb their senses. Unfortunately, this pursuit only exacerbates their loss of control. In the pursuit of redemption, control, and power, distraction and an amplified dose of the very drug that once provided those desired sensations manifest as close companions. The question that arises: What must emerge to shatter these chains? Is escape even possible, or is the descent into self-loss inevitable?

That is indeed Gus' voice actor!

Jut to keep these two terms separate. Edgerunner - a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk. Netrunner - The super-hackers of Night City, Netrunner's signature ability allows them to directly interface with all sorts of technology

It didn’t click for me the first several times I watched this show, but I feel like the limited episode count and choppy storytelling is yet another aspect of the story being told, like regardless how good something can be in Night City, stories almost always have abrupt endings that not only leave you wanting more, but genuinely deserved more time. Maine’s death, for me, is more jarring because they know the audience would want more from the character and yet he dies regardless. It’s not just the main theme or lesson of this story, but also it’s tone, the mood that permeates every alley and morgue. Lucy says it outright but I didn’t contextualize it until just right now. Whether this life kills you or not isn’t a question. The question is how it kills you and whether or not you remember that it started off with that question.
