I think what happens with Envy being pitiful in death is powerful because that's how I feel about murderers. They are sad, pitiful, and stupid. How insanely stupid do you have to be devalue life and especially human life when that's all you are and all you have?

I agree, I want to add two points though. 1. Envy basically caused the entire war and several other conflicts presumably over the course of centuries. 2. Envy is made up of the souls of several people so not only is Mustang crossing the line, he is literally hurting innocent people in Envy's philosopher stone in the process by burning them to death one by one.
I think FMAB is phenomenal but the lack of focus on most of the homunculus' inner conflicts about themselves is definitely a weakness in the writing. Lust in particular feels very shallow, as does Gluttony and sloth. As much as I like what Heinkel brought to the story, I do think if Arakawa had cut the chimeras and used those extra pages to flesh out the homunculus a bit more the story would have benefitted

One of the biggest hints I had first watching the show is that Envy didn't have a gun. As far as I can know they can make swords and snakes with their ability but a gun wouldn't work (literally Terminator 2 rules)

What a great episode to have right before the day people celebrate this show, because it's the day Ed and Al burned down their house and the message written in Ed's pocket watch is "Don't forget 3 Oct. 11".

Milena clearly said in the video NOT the answer that question because she considered it a spoiler. So, yes, it is a spoiler.

While generally I wish the Ishval episode had included more of the manga content, I think saving this moment for the start of this episode was a smart choice. It's been a while since episode 30, and it needs to remind the audience of all the layers to these characters and the upcoming scenes. Because it isn't as straightforward as killing a dangerous enemy, or even just killing out of revenge. Had Mustang simply killed Envy (something he could have done very quickly), I don't think we would have the following scenes.
You guys obviously get what the show is saying, and you hit a lot of good points in your discussion. I've seen a fair number of people get confused by everyone talking Mustang down, saying that it makes no sense for people to act like Roy torturing Envy to death would suddenly make him "a bad person". But that line of thinking ignores the crucial fact that we can't call Roy a "good" person. The reality is, he has already crossed the moral event horizon. He has already murdered innocent men, women, and children. In fact, if you compared the number of people he's killed to Envy's, their numbers are probably not far off. Sure, Roy didn't delight in cruelty the way that Envy always did, but that doesn't change the atrocities he committed. What Mustang and Hawkeye have done - because it's important to remember that Riza considers Roy's kills to be on her for sharing the secrets of flame alchemy - cannot be atoned for. It is inherently impossible, and they *know* that. It's what makes them such great characters. They know they can't make up for what they did. All they can do is try to make the world better. And that's what Roy vows to use Flame alchemy for. To protect people. To build a better world, so that the crimes they committed in Ishval can never be repeated. And Riza has vowed to work with him, to follow him on this path to try to make a better world, on the specific condition that he wouldn't use his flame alchemy for anything other than that path.
What Roy is doing here, delighting in burning parts of Envy's body so that Envy dies as slowly and agonizingly as possible, is Roy jumping off that path without looking back. Especially considering the circumstances: it's not like they have a lot of time to spare here. But Riza, Scar, and Ed (but let's be real, it's mostly Riza and Scar) lead him back to the path again.

the 2003 version have some aspects that are better than Brotherhood. But the majority of wins goes to Brotherhood without a doubt

Roy said he'll leave as little trace as he can with her tattoo. When we saw her showering, we saw that there were burn scars in some areas. So, he did try his best to remove the tattoo.

Yep! Its kind of interesting that the first time we see the tattoo is when it is already burned. Sort of gives you two questions at once - what is her tattoo? And why does she have those scars?

For me, her character there frustrates me because they added so much more to it, only for all her character development to end very abruptly. I remember when I started reading the manga after watching the 03 version, and I found the way they incorporated Greedling into the story to work much better.

Imagine if people took to the comments section on Patreon to answer all their discussion questions and talking points, every show would be spoiled. Pretty sure they assume Patreon members realize they don't actually want any spoilers lol. I really don't think they're coming to the comments section looking for answers or clarity on future events.

ok, last comment, i promise.
pretty sure that what you mentioned of roy telling hawkeye he trusted her to kill him if he ever went the wrong way was in episode 30, the one where it's focused on the ishvalan war.
i've also always felt a bit bad for the sins, ngl. maybe ones are worse than others but yeah, at the end of the day they didn't ask for being created that way.
i don't actually see much difference when you film with the lights on tbh. it's not that drastic of a change, i wouldn't really mind if you watches episodes like that. i can understand how hard it is to stop.
are you finishing fmab before you leave for the vacations or are you ending it after? i'm on vacation since yesterday too ☺️ back to work on the 18th so gotta make the most out of these two weeks.

About Lust: I recently finished watching Fullmetal Alchemist 2003, and Lust in particular plays a much bigger role in the story, so like Envy, you see a conflict between being homunculus and being human. Love and crushes, affection and deception, dying for someone and leaving someone behind. Her sin also burdens her character. It's really interesting to watch. But I personally can't really recommend the 2003 version. Once you fall in love with FMAB, it really bothers you how different some of the characters are in the older version. And the story is unfortunately not as polished as Hiromu Arakawa's, though I find a concept behind alchemy, which the 2003 version established, very interesting.
But for now I'm looking forward to the next episodes and your discussions about what will happen.

the tattoo is "destroyed" i mean, he didn't burned it all, i suppose just the important and essential parts
