Patch Report 12/6/23

Yesterday's patch was uniquely disruptive in that it knocked several diagnostic tools out of commission. We modders use those tools to see whether our mods are broken and where so that we can start fixing them. Without those tools, unless a mod is crashing the game or misbehaving in a very visible way, it can be very time-consuming to find where the new issues are, and without a detailed error report it can be troublesome to find the problem in code to fix it.

To explain the root problem in simple terms, new code in the patch accidentally closed a door that many script mods relied to start their functions. Even if all the subsequent code could run without any problems, it wasn't allowed to get through that first door to get started. When it comes to fixing that problem, though, what is unusual is that only one mod needs to be updated to unlock that door. Then, the rest of your mods will get the same benefit and many will start working again without being updated themselves.

With all that said, many of my mods are broken in isolation, BUT if you have updated mods like MCCC and Better Exceptions or downloaded TwistedMexi's standalone "Scripted Menus Not Showing" fix in the past day, my mods will magically start working again too. I need more time to assess how much of my content is actually broken and what needs fixing. I'll be adding the necessary code to allow my mods to work independently without other mods, and of course Home Regions will need an update soon to include the new World of Tomarang.

Lots of credit to modders like Deaderpool, TURBODRIVER, and TwistedMexi who were investigating the root cause yesterday, and extra thanks to Frankk for creating a code snippet that multiple modders can include in their content to fix the problem without creating redundancies and lag.
